You want to put some kind of explanation down here before you leave? Here's one as good as any you're likely to find. We're bein' punished by the Creator. He visited a curse on us. So that man could look at... what Hell was like. Maybe He didn't want to see us blow ourselves up, put a big hole in the sky. Maybe He just wanted to show us He's still the Boss Man.

Rest In Peace: George A. Romero
One of the few horror icons I actually met in person. What a legacy he leaves behind.
The weird tag line of Dawn of the Dead was one of the earliest memories I have of something truly scaring me..."When there's no more room in HELL, the dead will walk the EARTH." Some kids were talking about that in grade school when the film came out, and it really REALLY got under my skin.

figure, we gettin' too big for our britches, tryin' to figure His shit
out.

Choke On 'Em!
We don't have enough ammunition to shoot them all in the head. The time
to have done that would have been in the beginning. No, we let them
overrun us. We are in the minority now, something like 400,000 to one by
my calculation.

What's Your Inner Zombie Like?
I was watching an interview with Romero a while back and he was discussing Day of the Dead. He mentioned how each of us has our own individual inner zombie. The zombie actors in his earlier films, and I'm assuming he meant the extras, didn't get much coaching by way of the style of their walk or the tilt of their heads or the movement of their arms. He said that they just sort of found their inner zombie by instinct.

Sugar Skulls
I have a bunch of plastic skull molds and have made these little guys in the past. I never decorated them with icing though. I just used the smaller molds to make tiny skulls and dropped them in my coffee. Bubbles come up like the things are drowning. Then the bubbles stop...the skulls die...and the coffee turns sickly sweet.
Some instructions.

Calaveras
I have a tiny collection of Day of the Dead artwork and these great photos make me want to go out and buy more. A few years ago, I pondered an idea for the Scarecrow Contest - a Mexican Day of the Dead-themed wedding scene where the bride and groom are the typical skull-faced figures and the minister is the Devil [red horns visible] wearing a skull mask (all three facing outward, with the Devil in-between with his hands on the bride and groom's shoulders - both smiling and unaware of what they've just done). But I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
Maybe one of these days when I start to mellow out.
