Social Reality

I saw this on my bud Jon Glassett's blog and man did it hit home.
I wanted to re-post it on my blog since the Haunting Community has a very strong element of sharing and discussing new prop projects and haunt themes.

Check it out here.

Amen, to that. My haunt last year was pretty much a testament to the idea that having discussed and envisioned my haunt, my work was essentially done. I didn't have to do it any more.

And as an aside, the TED program hosts some really awe-inspiring speakers sometimes. I've run across quite a number of engaging discussions there and recommend checking in to the site often.

Cheers,
Rich

how true. i must agree whole heartedly with this one, some of the TED talks kind of leave me feeling a bit indifferent but this one rings true, i think i won't tell anyone too much about what i am working on...i will let my in-progress photos do the talking!

good post Rot!

Thanks for sharing this.

This is especially true for those with art blogs and something I've recently been noting about myself.

For me, the sharing of an idea never takes the wind out of my sails, it's when I add a deadline to it that does.

Many personal projects become work and less a creative escape and fun to do as soon as I write something like:

"Tommorrow I'll.."
"Next week..."
"This month..."

It's a bad habit that I'm starting to try and change.

I was really glad Jon posted that on his blog. I like the speaker's advice that if you're going to talk about it, you kinda have to trick your mind into knowing it's going to be a lot of work to meet the goal.

Stupid brain.

Couldn't agree more. Two Months ago I put up a blog post about some of the props I've been working on recently. I also said I was starting to make THREE jap-horror style ghosts. A few weeks later I went back and edited it.

this could be really helpful for Halloween haunt builders and people in general, maybe we should all share it by reposting it.

Thanks for sharing that Rot, really cool stuff, and useful info, Ill have to check out the other TED talks. That probably means that we will get even less 2011 spoilers from you though, damn.

I don't like "haunting" for others...I want to do what I want to do and what works and I can finish. Sometimes my plans just do not work. Or it works but looks awful.
Or, if I feel to pressured from my grand plans, just throw it up and have a good Halloween.
Rot, I imagine you feel as if the entire internets expect Halloween magic from you...and we do. But whatever you make, we will love it.

Feel free to not worry about what we want. I dare you to put a single carved pumpkin on the porch for 2011 and say "Happy Halloween!" ;}
