Oh, I was just thinking how funny it would be if he were doing a period piece with everyone using the profanity of the day in ridiculous excess. I hope he'll consider moving beyond the torture porn, at least.
Yeah. I was digging the period piece concept, but then it said the story flashes forward to the present.I just hope he creates characters I dig. His Halloween remake had me wanting the entire cast dead in the first ten minutes. I want to fear for the main characters' safety.
Well you know his daughter has a part in it.......
I have to admit of all his movies I've only seen House, which left me pretty cold, and El Superbeasto, which I love! If he does nothing but take off on Ralph Bakshi from here on out, I'll be content. But I hope this movie is good. What the hell.
Biiiig "Devil's Rejects" fan here!
Yeah, me too.
I think the Halloween films gave Rob an undeserved reputation. I personally found House of 1000 Corpses to be a fun throwback to 70's drive-in horror, and I found The Devil's Rejects to be downright brilliant. His Halloween remake was pretty much doomed from the start, as you just CANNOT remake Carpenter's masterpiece. I'll give him kudos for at least attempting to do his own thing with it, but it just fell short of the mark. The script was a mess.As for his H2, I think it works as a film on its own, but not as a Halloween film. I found it to be a rather fascinating take on the idea of how people would cope with enduring such a horrific experience. If it hadn't had the Halloween-mythos characters tied to it, and just been its own film, I think it would have been far better received. As it is, we all have associations with Laurie Strode, Dr. Loomis, Annie Brackett, etc, and those characters were NOT visible in this film.I think Rob works better when he does his own thing. I think the concept of The Lords of Salem is an interesting one, and I hope it delivers. Rob has a great sense of texture and atmosphere in his movies, and when he is writing his own characters he usually does a fantastic job. I have to agree with Rot that he managed to make all of the characters in his Halloween remake to be somewhat unlikable, and thus I didn't care for them. If he is creating the character, he seems to give them much more depth.I have to disagree with Steve that he just does "torture porn". Yes, his films are brutal, but they aren't really in the same vein as the Saw or Hostel movies. They have more in common with 70's filmmaking like Peckinpah's works, in my opinion.Oh, and Jay, I think you're meaning his wife (Sherri Moon Zombie). Rob doesn't have a daughter, but his wife has been in every one of his films to date.
