I gotta say. If you did only Begging For Candy and never dig you scarecrows I bet you would be recognized for this anyway. Are you even half aware how good this stuff is sometimes? You could make one of those collective work books like Calvin and Hobbs and it would be HUGE!

ha..we'll see : )

really appreciate that.
I just like doing them.

I went to cartooning school as a kid, specifically to learn to draw Sunday funnies type stuff. Problem was I was in these classes with 12 year olds drawing comic book style as we'll or better then the pros and I got discouraged and stopped. What I appreciate most about how the funnies are done and with what your doing here is that the drawings can be super simple and still get point across. I'd love to get back into it. I think society needs a more edgy comic in the Sunday paper. Yours would fit right in. Though I think it would piss a lot of straight laced people off.......which would be great haha

I spent a lot of time many years ago learning about the trade after becoming obsessed with Calvin and Hobbes. It felt like something I'd love to do. And address the things in life that no one ever seems to address. I had an idea and even drew a bunch of them out in a book. Non-halloween stuff. But I got frustrated with the artwork and my inability to get on paper what I was seeing in my head.

Later, I kept feeling I needed to do a Halloween strip. Initially it was going to be about two Yard Haunter friends, older kids, always talking about Halloween and props and crazy ideas for the perfect Haunt.

Here's a pic i posted a while back from a comic I once did for some magazine that was actually sold in stores...so that was very cool.

you can see the obvious ripping of Watterson's style : )

You nail it on the head when you say it was the inability to put to paper what was in your head. Thats what killed it for me. Not sure if it had to do with the art itself or the points i was trying to make but thats what drove me nuts. Im that way with everything, if it doesn't materialize physically how I see it in my head I get discouraged. You can see the Watterson style in your work, but i think all cartoonists have to subconsciously borrow from other artists. I guess the work that has the strongest impression on you will do that you you.
Its gotta be a one in gazillion chance that a cartoonist actually makes the papers. Which is odd to me because some of the stuff on there now is TERRIBLE. Save for Zitts, I like that one haha.

yeah...i stopped reading the comics after Watterson left.
Not sure how most of those ever got syndicated in the first place.
My personal favorites:
1. Calvin And Hobbes
2. The Far Side
3. Herman (not to be confused with Henry)

:) Stuck in Halloween, trick or treating all night, and no hot weather.....I'm in.

LOVE Calvin and Hobbes and The Far Side. I have a few C & H books sitting on top of my dresser.

Farside was as close to truly edgy as I think the comics could actually get. PLEASE tell me you have read Chas Addams' stuff! There is not a chance in hell you wouldn't dig it

actually never.

which is odd i suppose.

If you don't already know he is the creator of the Addams Family. His work is somewhat quirky and somewhat truly messed up. A good amount of the work is where the characters for the show originated, and other stuff is just twisted to the fullest extent. i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it. try this one I own it

will do.

thanks.

This is a good one as well. Im pretty confident your gonna get into this. It's the non Addams Family stuff that truly shines.

Okkkkkkk..NOW..i KNOW it's Friday!!

trick or treating for ALL eternity, that's Heaven. : D

& reading this totally made Ben Tramer (the car accident on halloween night) pop into my head.
Love!

ohhhhh & i think the next 2 days are going to be a bit cooler, especially at night.

haha
poor ben tramer..
drunk and wearing a mask.
I often thought that Loomis indirectly killed him...he makes Sheriff Bracket pull over...ben's probably thinking he's going to get arrested for being mega-trashed and turns and walks in the street...meanwhile loomis was seconds from shooting him.

Ben Tramer was born to Carl Tramer and Bonnie Irvine on June 20, 1961 in Haddonfield, Illinois. Laurie Strode had a crush on him but was too shy to ask him out. She never got a chance to go on a date with him as he died the same night as her friends did, however he wasn't killed by Michael Myers. At that night he was wearing very similar clothing to Michael, the police and Dr. Sam Loomis assumed it's him and chased him down. A cop car crashed into him and pinned him to a van, causing a fire and killing him.

Hilarious...
He and I share the same birth date!
well, not the year..but that's really peculiar...and funny.

Suddenly "Begging For Candy" takes on a new meaning...

I'm too young to have read Calvin and Hobbes in the papers, but I did grow up on the book anthologies of them. "Yukon Ho!", "Weirdos from another Planet", "Scientific Progress Goes Boink"; loved those books.

so i guess, calvin & hobbes would sorta, kinda be, a mod version of christopher robin & pooh.gaaahhhh.
