Props

I've gone on and on about the Space Jockey prop featured in Ridley Scott's Alien film.

A brilliant Giger concept sculpted by Brian Muir and Peter Voysey.

So I was thinking about the Greats. The props that deserve to be on a Top 10 list.
The Poltergeist Ghost surely would be on there.
Pumpkinhead too.
And Giger's Alien and Winston's Alien Queen.

What else?

How about a terminator? The titanium walking skeletons always creeped me out. I am also partial to the scarecrow in Sleepy Hollow.

Absolutely on both counts.

Any of the forms that The Thing took were fantastic, but the version where it was on the table and chopped the Doc's arms off was perfect. Pyramid Head from Silent Hill is one of my favs too.

American Werefolf in London. Oh, and any Rob Botten props from the remake of The Thing.

The kennel-thing/flesh-flower in 'The Thing'. Original, of course.

The face-ripped-in-half-by-a-zombie-baby prop in 'Dead-Alive' (kiwi pride).

And absolutely everything in 'SWAMP FOETUS'.

:)

This might be a stretch, but that split second that we see Dracula in humanoid bat form in Bram Stoker's Dracula was probably my favorite moment in that film.

Not exactly a classic scene in horror film, but I've always loved it.

The alien crab head from The Thing.

Also: JODY THE PIG

Two blinking, red eyes. That's all it took.

I quickly read your post and started listing actors with make up such as Tim Curry as Darkness but realized you asked for props. Most likely non CGI. All I can think of is The Thing and the Baby from Eraserhead.

Good post....waiting to hear more responses...

The Underworld movies have some great props in the also, the Lycans(in my opinon) were very well done.

The Predator movies have some good ones....

i know it's not a horror but it was for me: that giant alien at the end of close encounters of the third kind. That spider-legged abomination that still scares me if i think about it.

Ditto to the terminator guys. The fact that they just kept coming and could not be stopped.

How about the alien in the first Alien movie? All drippy and snotty and such.

The Giant Lobster rapist from John Water's 1970 film "Multiple Maniacs".

These are all GREAT.
We need a prop renaissance in Hollywood. Most of these are pre-90's. That's crazy.

It really does show just another bad side effect of CGI.

Hoo boy, don't get me started on favorite props, the list would never end. But since yours is a Halloween themed blog. These are just some of my favorite creepy ones...

The corpse headed cup/chalice of Kali from Temple of Doom (the one Indy was forced to drink from).

The Zuni Fetish doll from Trilogy of Terror.

The Atlantean warrior skeleton in the crypt from the first Conan the Barbarian movie were he found his sword.

The grim reaper monument in the graveyard scene in the original Karloff Frankenstein.
