Back To School

I always hated school. Every aspect of it. And I resented Summer. It was a reprieve from the horrors of school, but it occurred on the hottest months of the year. I despise heat.

I worship Autumn. A cruel joke that "Back to School" is usually associated with Fall. The advertisements for sales of school clothes, stationery, and supplies were always accompanied by images of autumn leaves and acorns. Sacrilege.

Though I always found myself waiting. Savoring each day away from school, but waiting for that change in the weather. Usually a storm in the middle of August would bring it. And most often at night. The morning after would be crisp, clear, and electric. It was only temporary, and the heat would quickly return. But you now knew that Autumn was out there waiting. And that made going back to school just slightly not as bad.

That describes me perfectly. Can't stand summer, love fall and winter. (I can handle spring alittle bit)

Can't wait for fall....

I kinda enjoyed school, but I was kinda stuck with the heat even in the fall since I live in Florida.

Totally agree. I hate when they advertise back to school stuff in July, now that is cruel. I always wished for true Autumn weather. Living in SoCal, you don't really get seasonal weather, or as many gorgeous trees.

Yahuh!! There's nothing worse than waiting for that nasty back-to-school stuff to clear out of the stores so they can start putting out Halloween. I'm in SoCal too and the Halloween booty seemed particularly dismal last year as far as retailers went.

I enjoyed this essay. For me, school meant the return of cooler, more pleasant weather.

I can sympathize with you So Cal people. So Cal doesn't get noticeably cool weather until December. There are some trees along Beverwil Drive that turn bright red in the fall. (600 block)

Yes yes YES! Here in NC its hellish hot when school returns...but this thunderstorms do brimg relief...or I will hear the crows calling, and you will start to see a yellow leaf here and there floating down the creek. It probably died of heat, but still...that faded dead look of August gets my blood stirring.....and I just pine awat for full fall. I hated school too.! The only bad thing about fall.

you needed to read my Bradbury. You'd fall in love with summer if you'd only listen to his words ;)

But yea, advertising back to school like it's a natural part of autumn is a sin.

Same, I hated school. I would always be the lasted one in and first one out. Hearing boring lectures while i would think of things to create and make. I would drawl michael myers masks on top of my notebook. I remeber hearing a couple of kids saying what is he drawling hahahah...never got old. But the fall did bring a good feeling soon as we got pass some days in septemeber and the school commericals and nonsense was over.. Halloween was right around the coner!!
