Scarecrow 2010

Decided to give them what they want. A traditional scarecrow. Instantly appealing to children and the elderly.

Not really, but I'm currently working on this year's scarecrow for the contest. Extremely traditional and Halloween-ish. Curb appeal, with darker creepy tones as you get closer.

I'm going to call him SEEDS.
And he's going to win first place.

Totally.

Knock 'em dead...literally.

Sorry, I just have always wanted to have an excuse to say that.

Well, I guess you have to make the village happy once in a while.

(until they get closer and see the dark side of it....)

Yes Rot, courage in your convictions...

I sure hope you win, Mr. Rot! But it seems to me this competition is more geared to sickeningly cute "scarecrows" which are mostly pop-culture references. Now if only they had a EVIL SCARECROW competition, now THAT would be awesome!

I should add that I'm not in any way pandering to the crowds at the competition. This scarecrow is going to be 100% me. Just my more traditional side. Not sacrificing any of the darkness : )

Maybe you should make one with animatronic TOT's legs kicking from his large mouth.
That'll learn 'em!

"seeds"...can't wait to see it! I already have visions of a mischievous, pumpkin-headed scarecrow with just a bit of an evil smile...only when you come close do you see the rotten, roasted seeds oozing from his orifices! I admire your tenacity in entering this contest year after year. the stuff these guys have selected for winners each year would have kicked me to the curb long ago. (but I think most people really just don't 'get' good art) anyway, so glad to hear you won't be sacrificing your artistic integrity--whew! had me scared there for a minute, hehe. (not really...)
