Really pleased with the garden this year...seemed to have really come to life. Planted a Japanese herb last year called the red shiso, and the plant seeded and now I think I'm on the verge of ruining the neighborhood ecology, as it's EVERYWHERE...even in the backyard (assumed the lawnmower was the carrier)...you'll see it growing and spreading out into the grass. I kinda love the color. Everywhere you see purple, that's the shiso plant. And I didn't plant it this season. It came up on its own.

By far and away the best halloween props AND you smoke a clay tavern pipe!?!?
Love this post! Perfect way to spend a Saturday...
I wish it weren’t so hard to cultivate plant life here. We’ve planted a ton and the only thing thriving are the succulents, naturally. I miss living in a climate that produces lush gardens. Never heard of Shiso. Sounds like mint, how it takes over.
highbury..haha..occasionally!
saw one at a store for 12 bucks and was intrigued enough to buy it. And use it.
It's relaxing and fun... so i ordered myself a Church Warden wood pipe!
Nice garden! My dream is to one day have the back garden in such a state to have a haunted garden party.
sara, i never knew that about mint.
a neighbor was talking to me so he came up on the lawn with his dog...the dog smelled this weird herb (smells like strong curry) and started to go nuts and lay flat on the ground pushing himself into the weird tiny purple leaves.... making weird sounds.
I'm telling you... it's some kind of horrid epidemic happening.
Sounds like a M.Night movie waiting to happen.:)
Wow, everything looks great! Yeah, it's funny what'll take off when you are not looking. Having plants are so relaxing. And the clay pipe? Classy! You're turning into the Strawman ;)
Killer props, botanist, tobacco connoisseur, cat rescue...what don't you do?
Too late to plant those peppers?
What a beautiful garden. I kind of like the shiso.
i definitely like the shiso being in the garden...looks neat in the grass too.
smells great whenever i cut the lawn.
and it adds a nice darkness to the garden... so it can stay (not that i have a choice).
Soon your neighbors will find you rolling around in the grass making weird noises.....
