The Halloween Campus Massacre

Have you heard of this one? There is this rumor all over college campuses about a mass murder that is predicted to take place on Halloween. This prediction was supposedly made on the Oprah show a couple of weeks ago by the same lady that predicted the OK bombing. Have you heard anything about this? Everyone here is talking about it. It's in the paper, it's on the radio, and students everywhere are scared. Please let me know whether you know if this is an urban legend or if I should get out of town that weekend. This is extremely important!

Yep. I introduced Snopes to my coworkers who would forward emails first and then ask questions later.

I love those legends.

This image from Halloween 6 always cheers me up, lol. Call me crazy but I really like the Halloween-conography in the 6th film.

This little image just cheered me right up.

and I hope people realize I wasn't posting that because I believed it!

Nothing like a good urban legend to set the mood for the month of October.

I'm impressed...6 is such a forgotten film

I heard that its illegal to wear little bo peep costumes because the killer is supposed to be dressed as little bo peep! For real, my brothers sisters mothers son told me ;)

i love HALLOWEEN 6! i thought it was a really thoughtful and cleverly put together, especially the way that they pulled the celtic lore/origins of samhain back into the story.

and the way in which it was filmed/storyboarded was very reminiscent of the first one, which will always be my all time favorite halloween film (with TRICK r TREAT nudging it from behind! lol)...

I told my mother-in-law about Snopes when she first *discovered* the computer and email a few years ago, but while she is a total believer in everything she forwards, she is skeptical of Snopes, so it was a lost cause.

Those urban legends are going to make it easy for some psycho-killer to wipe out a few of us one day - we will all be Snopesing when he sneaks in our window!
Maybe it isn't such a bad thing to believe in forwards?

But I don't think anyone would believe that you bought this one, no...

The amazing thing is the life these urban legends have in them, despite being debunked year after year.

Even though our department was well aware they were urban legends, we'd still have to go on a heightened state of alert every year when the latest rumor passed through the mill because there was a chance - however slim - that someone would act on it and make it "legend" no more.

Of course, growing up I totally believed in the guy with the hook hand.

H6 looks like the only H film that was acutally filmed in the fall..love that pic! I wish it they would release the Blu Ray.

My sister was always a pain to live with, but she was the one who introduced me to urban legends in the form of "I know the person this happened to..."

So much of my childhood was spent pondering on these things and how they could possibly have happened...like the hairy small dog that turned out to be a rat...she SWORE it was true.

The hook hand guy...TRUE...she knew the mother of the guy killed.

And the poor Mikey kid and the pop rocks. May he rest in peace.

Looks like her prediction was a month early-- you heard about the school shooting in Texas this morning?

Please note, I don't believe in predictions. I'm merely posting because of the semi-coincidental timing of this event with the alleged prediction.

The version that I heard said that it would place at a dorm near a cemetery. The University that I attended at the time this first went around had such a dorm, so people were pretty freaked out.

I've never heard of it. I am embarrassed to say I never saw H6 and will make amends immediately.

Just keep in mind that a LOT of the Halloween community HATE H6.

With that in mind...just think of it as something "different"....

And it has Loomis in it...so that's cool....and it's really neat to see him at his house in a scene...

^ Because a lot of the Halloween Community is LAME. ;)

It *is* different, and I love me some crazy, huge, beefed-up Michael, you know? Like MM on steroids. *He* actually scares me in that film, instead of the atmosphere doing the scaring, like in the original.

That's why I had hopes for the newest films. I like the idea of Michael being giant-esque, massive and inescapable. But.....I also like a creepy but normal size Michael, too. :)

Halloween 6 does a good job of making me want to eat candy apples and candy corn and not be in my house alone during the day! I love it!

Haha, good thing Halloween falls on a Sunday and I don't live on campus!

The theatrical version of H6 was not good at all in my opinion. The producer's cut was how H6 was intended. It has a better story, better soundtrack, and better flow. If you can find a copy of the producer's cut, pick it up as you will not be disappointed!

I agree about the Producer's Cut.
I picked that guy up years ago and I agree that it's the better version.

Ahh....Love me some urban legends! I too believed the "hook hand man" story with all my heart when I was a kid. Scared the living piss outta me!!!

As for Halloween 6, I absolutely HATED it when I first saw it, but I've recently re-watched it and have come to appreciate it. It isn't a great film, mind you, but it does have some wonderful moments. The atmosphere is fantastic throughout, and there are some great performances. Of course, the film was plagued by problems, most notably the death of Donald Pleasence, and it makes for an uneven film. Its biggest strength is also its greatest flaw: the incorporation of celtic lore into the story. While the "Thorn cult" is a fascinating idea, it also serves to de-mystify Michael Myers.

I haven't seen the "Producer's Cut", but everyone seems to be of a mind that it is a better film overall. It's a shame that Disney won't release this version of the film, but what can you do? I'd love to see it, as my most recent viewing of this film really struck me with one thought: this was ALMOST a great movie.

Rot said...

Halloween II actually sorta kinda injected the Celtic lore into that film...with the word "Samhain" being written on the school chalkboard by Michael Myers.

Which I always found very strange.
And cool.
