I'm very late to this party and I blame other "reality" shows for tainting my perception. And I blame SyFy's other effects show Monster Man for chasing me off completely.
We caught a Face Off marathon a while back and I was really surprised to find a show that was nothing about back-stabbing and horrible human values. It's just a bunch of talented makeup artists working on a weekly design challenge which gets presented to a panel of judges. No forced drama. No fake scripting. And a lot of neat makeup effects.
The artists even help each other out along the way, lending a creative hand where they can, so it's kinda sad when someone loses the weekly challenge. Though it always seems to be a legitimate, talent-based elimination.

An Old Whorehouse
We climbed through a broken window,
walked through every room.
Out of business for years,
the mattresses held only
rainwater, and one
woman’s black shoe. Downstairs
spiders had wrapped up
the crystal chandelier.
A cracked cup lay in the sink.
But we were fourteen,
and no way dust could hide
the expected glamour from us,
or teach us anything.
We whispered, we imagined.
It would be years before
we’d learn how effortlessly
sin blooms, then softens,
like any bed of flowers.

Abduction
I could see down the length of the hall and it appeared that the lights were coming through the windows on all sides of the house at the same time.
At this point in time I was lying on my back. I was very frightened. I eventually raised myself up on my elbows. I saw several, small, peoplelike things walking down the right side of the hall, one behind the other.
They were short with thin arms and legs. As they approached the bedroom, the third or fourth one in the line raised his right hand up. I knew they were coming to me.
