Harvest Cake

It's hard to say how I'd react if I was given such a cake.
I dare say that tears might be present in some shape or form.

31 Days Until Halloween

Strange to think the High Holiday is a month away.  I'd imagine the Yard Haunter is a modern form of the Druid Priest.  Our offerings aren't as fiery nor as bloody, but they're important offerings nonetheless, packed with emotion and Tradition.  And Spirit.

I love being a part of this ancient holiday.
I absolutely love it.

Constantine Series

I hear a TV project is in the works based on the DC Comics series and film Constantine.

So I dug up a neat scene from the film.  I love this movie.

Rue Morgue Halloween Issue

Excited to mention that I did an interview with Rue Morgue magazine which will be appearing in their Halloween issue.  The digital version is available now and the print version will be hitting the streets on October 1st.

Waking Up

A powerhouse track from the Oblivion soundtrack.
I listen to this a lot on the way to work.

And then when I park and turn the music off....
Talk about anticlimactic.

Basement Witches

Replaced a standard bulb with an orange one.  Sure, I can't see what I'm painting, but it sure looks cool.

Donut Holes

Anyone else see Ichabod Crane on the latest Sleepy Hollow episode trying a donut hole for the first time?
We watched it last night and I walked into work thinking that someone in here had better bring a box of those things into the office today.

I almost wrote Heads will roll, but decided against it.

Pumpkin Spice Munchkins @ Dunkin' Donuts

Surely I could have been that person, but if you recall, I'm avoiding the local Dunkin Donuts due to the Pumpkin Syrup Incident, as it's become known in this part of the country.

Cursed Be He That Moves My Bones

How he would figure among them in the churchyard, between services on Sundays; gathering grapes for them from the wild vines that overran the surrounding trees; reciting for their amusement all the epitaphs on the tombstones; or sauntering, with a whole bevy of them, along the banks of the adjacent millpond; while the more bashful country bumpkins hung sheepishly back, envying his superior elegance and address.

Horror Nights

Every year I come across photos like this from the Universal Studios Halloween event and every year I think to myself how anti-Halloween something like this must be.  Like is this really some kind of performance occurring?  And is it really Bill and Ted of all things?

Anyone ever go to this?  Is it fun?  Does it make sense?  Does it fit into the scheme of Halloween things?

Bill & Ted say "Party on, dudes!"

Undead Cannibals

Of course 'cannibal' implies interspecies activity, and they don't feed on each other.  Just us.

The Whimsy Terror

I'd love to stand this outside of someone's window at night and just walk away.

I'm assuming the intent of its creator was bladder-emptying terror, but maybe whimsy was in mind and something went horribly horribly wrong.

In Theaters Again

Lightning

The oaks shone
gaunt gold
on the lip
of the storm before
the wind rose,
the shapeless mouth
opened and began
its five-hour howl;
the lights
went out fast, branches
sidled over
the pitch of the roof, bounced
into the yard
that grew black
within minutes, except
for the lightning – the landscape
bulging forth like a quick
lesson in creation, then
thudding away.  Inside,
as always,
it was hard to tell
fear from excitement:
how sensual
the lightning’s
poured stroke!  and still,
what a fire and a risk!
As always the body
wants to hide,
wants to flow toward it – strives
to balance while
fear shouts,
excitement shouts, back
and forth – each
bolt a burning river
tearing like escape through the dark
field of the other.

Earthy

There's an earthy feel to this, like I see in a lot of other vintage photos.  Like grime and earthiness were a part of Halloweens of the past (grime might be too strong a word..and too gross a word).  Maybe it's just the high contrast in the old photographs, or because people had their costumes/masks stored away in old dirt-floor basements or dusty hot attics.  Or because people would wear hand-me-downs...costumes worn by older sisters and brothers, and uncles and parents before that.  Not sure, but I dig it.
And I think people who have that Old School look in their Yard Haunts are totally in on this secret.
And I dig that even more.
