Really excited about these two releases from buysoundtrax.com.
One of the most brilliant aspects of John Carpenter's The Thing was the electronic score he and Alan Howarth composed for it (used alongside Ennio Morricone's score). The original soundtrack release contained only Morricone's work.
Alan Howarth's Halloween IV is a must-have, and it's been remastered and includes cues previously unreleased.

Charles Ashmore's Trail
On the evening of the 9th of November in 1878, at about nine o'clock, young Charles Ashmore left the family circle about the hearth, took a tin bucket and started toward the spring. As he did not return, the family became uneasy, and going to the door by which he had left the house, his father called without receiving an answer. He then lighted a lantern and with the eldest daughter, Martha, who insisted on accompanying him, went in search. A light snow had fallen, obliterating the path, but making the young man's trail conspicuous; each footprint was plainly defined. After going a little more than half-way--perhaps seventy-five yards--the father, who was in advance, halted, and elevating his lantern stood peering intently into the darkness ahead.
"What is the matter, father?" the girl asked.
This was the matter: the trail of the young man had abruptly ended, and all beyond was smooth, unbroken snow. The last footprints were as conspicuous as any in the line; the very nail-marks were distinctly visible. Mr. Ashmore looked upward, shading his eyes with his hat held between them and the lantern. The stars were shining; there was not a cloud in the sky; he was denied the explanation which had suggested itself, doubtful as it would have been--a new snowfall with a limit so plainly defined. Taking a wide circuit round the ultimate tracks, so as to leave them undisturbed for further examination, the man proceeded to the spring, the girl following, weak and terrified. Neither had spoken a word of what both had observed. The spring was covered with ice, hours old.
Returning to the house they noted the appearance of the snow on both sides of the trail its entire length. No tracks led away from it.
The morning light showed nothing more. Smooth, spotless, unbroken, the shallow snow lay everywhere.
Four days later the grief-stricken mother herself went to the spring for water. She came back and related that in passing the spot where the footprints had ended she had heard the voice of her son and had been eagerly calling to him, wandering about the place, as she had fancied the voice to be now in one direction, now in another, until she was exhausted with fatigue and emotion.

A Joke On The Children
To make it look realistic, the school obtained sirens and flashing lights from the police and littered the grounds with debris from the 'spaceship'.
Parents yesterday condemned the school for 'terrifying' their children and claimed that teachers had gone over the top in trying to 'fire their imagination'.
The 'Everyone Writes Day' - for all 370 pupils at the school in Burgess Hill, West Sussex - was designed to develop youngsters' writing skills.
It is based on an idea from the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the National Literacy Trust. The aim is to find ways to take writing beyond the classroom and to provide 'exciting stimuli' for storytelling.
At the start of the day, head Diana Goss informed pupils that an alien craft had crashed near the school and pupils were encouraged to 'follow a trail of debris' before stumbling across the UFO.
Sussex Police set up a crime scene around the crashed craft and supplied a police constable and a community support officer for two hours to help the children produce witness statements.
Pupils were told that Joy Law, the school's learning support teacher, who is responsible for special needs pupils, had been abducted.

The Dyatlov Pass Incident
...an event that resulted in the deaths of nine ski hikers in the northern Ural mountains on the night of February 2, 1959.
Six of the group members died of hypothermia and three of fatal injuries.
There were no indications of other people nearby apart from the nine travelers on Kholat Syakhl, nor anyone in the surrounding areas.
The tent had been ripped open from within.
The victims had died 6 to 8 hours after their last meal.
Traces from the camp showed that all group members left the camp of their own accord, on foot.
To dispel the theory of an attack by the indigenous Mansi people, Dr. Boris Vozrozhdenny stated that the fatal injuries of the three bodies could not have been caused by another human being, "because the force of the blows had been too strong and no soft tissue had been damaged".
Forensic radiation tests had shown high doses of radioactive contamination on the clothes of a few victims.
The final verdict was that the group members all died because of a "compelling unknown force". The inquest ceased officially in May 1959 due to the "absence of a guilty party". The files were sent to a secret archive, and the photocopies of the case became available only in the 1990s, with some parts missing.

Paranormal Witness: Producer Interview
Episode six, which we’re editing at the moment, is a story of demonic possession and it’s absolutely extraordinary. Again, on the face value you think, “My goodness, this can’t be true,” except in this case it’s corroborated by six people including the chief of police of the town in which it happened. It really is an incredibly creepy, extraordinary story of demonic possession, so you’d better look out for that one.
One of our stories, the Trumbull UFO Chase, tells how a 911 dispatch office in Ohio was completely inundated with calls from the townspeople seeing bright lights in the sky. A number of police officers then wound up chasing this unidentified flying object around the county. That entire incident was recorded over the Trumbull County police dispatch 911 records offices, so that type of archival, factual basis features very heavily in our show. Likewise, if photographs have been taken of poltergeist activity we make sure that those are cut into the films to give it that extra layer of credibility.
We have a really broad range of stories. Some are real rollercoaster rides and shock-a-minute like “The Haunting of Mansfield Mansion,” which I think is probably the scariest of all of the stories. Others are supernatural tear jerkers like “Haunted Highway,” and some are really just kind of overwhelmingly fascinating, such as the “Trumbull County UFO Chase.”

Reanimation
Take Me. Come into Me!
Well, there I was so awfully dead in that electric chair. I didn't like it. Would you? It's upsetting. There was still so much killing to do, and there I was, in the void, without a body. But then along came - well - my friend. You know. One of them. Those others over there. The cruel ones... the Master. He thought my work should continue. But in this body. This body in particular, in fact. Let's call it revenge.
