this is a MUST see. as much as film music is loved, it still seems somehow underappreciated or underrecognized. we just did a "pirates of the caribbean" marathon & man, that Hans Zimmer really captured the sound of Jack's wild (the pirate) heart SO perfectly!!! watching that movie & seeing Johnny Depp soaring thru the air to the music totally captures the essence of old Errol Flynn swashbuckling films & the romance of days gone by!!!
I. Have. To. See This! I've have often acquired the soundtrack to a film before I've seen it. I think music is the soul of cinema. You hear the theme and the pictures come immediately to mind. It's about time that someone has dedicated a film to this.
Autumnleaf...there's a movie i've been wanting to suggest to you for a while. maybe, you've caught it already. it's called Blow-Up (1966) & is directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. The soundtrack album features music composed by Herbie Hancock (which blows my mind for some reason) And....i don't know if this really counts toward soundtrack but the sound of the breeze moving thru the trees (which i am sure was recorded elsewhere & then added in at a later time) is absolutely beautiful. it's become my favourite sound. & then there's the story. there's David Hemmings (with THOSE eyes that i still can't seem to find my way back from) & there's Vanessa Redgrave, soooooo beautiful. Criterion just re-released it from a restored negative & included a bunch of extra features. i got to watch the restored version last night & fell in LOVE all over again. the sound of the trees that i'm talking about is pretty much thru out the movie. the movie has a strange thriller aspect & manages to be sorta whimsical too. a day in the life of even.
The Yardbirds show up as a band in a bar scene, with both Jimmy Page & Jeff Beck in the lineup. hahahaha anyway, thought you might LOVE this film.
Thank you girl6! I will check this out and yes, the sound of trees is definitely music! Always looking for gems to feed the soul. Btw I did acquire Crimson Peak (your recommendation) and love it! I guess I'm as old as dirt because I'm head-over-heals in love with Gothic Victorian anything. That being said though for me the sound of a film is as important as the visual content. I'm going to have fun looking up another of your favs!
Auntumleaf...i am SO happy you enjoyed Crimson Peak. Guillermo made that movie outta so much love..a gift to the ladies (us)..<3 i think another movie of his that you would like is Cronos (1993 i think) it has the same "decaying beauty" feeling. you will LOVE the antique shop & the relationship between the grandfather (played by the great Frederico Luppi) & his little granddaughter Aurora. awwwww..those 2, perfect true love. it's really one of the most fascinating & unusual vampire films i have ever watched. the musical score is quite lovely too.
you old....Nope, my little 14yr old cousin LOVES gothic victorian too.. :)
hahahaha you're so cute Autumnleaf!!! & my cousin corrected me, she's 15... : D
oh & hey..i still have that copy of Split. did you want a copy? no pressure tho. i can mail it to any address you like. i must warn you tho, i do put the disc in little homemade cardboard folders & doodle goofy art on them, like something from the movie. hahaha. seriously, just throwing it out there. ever need a copy, it's no problem. :)
