The Old House On The Hill

I've tried to write this post a few times since November, when I found out some terrible news.
Our community lost a talented and incredibly genuine and kind person.  On September 25th, PrimWitch from The Old House on the Hill (Candy was her real name) passed away suddenly of an unexpected illness.

I've featured her work a lot on the blog as it really spoke to me.  Primitive Folk Art is a mysterious art form.  It's crude and dark and organic.  It feels temporary and delicate, like it could crumble in your hands or blow over in the wind.  It speaks so loudly when bending Autumn or Winter in its twisty vines and dried husks and wrinkled fruits.  And Candy had it mastered.  A true artist.  One of the Greats of Primitive Folk Art.  A Giant.

Here's to the Prim Witch, of the Old House on the Hill.
May she be at peace, where it's forever Autumn.

Damn. You just never know when you’re time comes up, and it can happen in a blink of an eye. I know that too well.

I did love the old time feel of her set ups. Always looked like it was there for seasons.

Sleep well Prim Witch, we all will see each other sometime.

That is some really sad news. She created some wonderful scenes in her house. I definitely looked forward to your posts of her work.

You know, that reminds me what a strange animal the internet is. I find a lot of haunters’ old pages and enjoy the snapshots in time from 5, 10, or 15 years ago. Then you move forward through the pages to the present and you realize their haunt is gone for one reason or another. They moved, burned out, retired, got caught up with illness, or in the worst case, passed away. You are saddened for whatever situation that person is now in. You are sad that the haunt is no longer running. You are sad that you missed them “live” and in their prime. But they still live on through their work and its comforting to go back through those years and relive the experiences as if it was just happening.

So sad. I really loved her work and her photos are so amazing. They are truly from another time.

Her offerings seem unmatched by anything else out there nowadays....so unique....my first intro into Halloween collectibles was through primatives....and her stuff was just so different and cool...

So sad to hear about this, as she was really young. :(
Although, by reading the obituary, I smiled to see just how many people will remember her as a "beautiful person". One can only hope each of our obituaries say the same. Rest In Peace, Candy.

Well...damn....that's truly sad. Hate it when one of "our" community passes. She had such an amazing aesthetic...unlike anything else out there, yet truly representative of the Season. Rest In Peace, Candy.
