Happy Halloween

The Oldest Witch.

The First Witch.

Happy Halloween, everyone!
Wishing you all a wonderful and magical holiday.
Supposed to be 82 degrees here today, but it's better than rain!

Some photos below from our photo shoot last night.
Will be adding more pics to this gallery over the days to come.

Happy Halloween!!!! The Witch in the daytime especially looks like a real person and it’s so unnerving. Like she’s going to get up and walk towards us. I want to hear the backstory on this character and how , if at all, she relates to the Corn Witch. Cheers to you both and the hard work you put in and to a successful Halloween night!

Damn, put a security camera out there tonight to get some reactions. This would have even me second guessing walking up there. I just knew this would be special, but it is gorgeous and terrifying all at once! Some of the neighbor kids will be increasing their therapy sessions after this. Amazing haunt!

Wow, that is wonderfully creepy.
A few kids are going to shit their pants tonight if they have to walk the path to the WITCH.

Look at her eyes...Unbelievable.
This wealth of detail, I love it.
The wait for your haunt was absolutely worth it.
My greatest admiration for you both.

Thanks, Sara! Happy Halloween! Beings she's the First. The orginal Witch..she is technically the Mother of All Witches...so, you see, the Corn Witch is in the bloodline (making this up as I go along).

Thanks! Happy Halloween!

Haha Thanks, Jeff! It's pretty dark! Happy Halloween!

Thanks a ton! Those small specs in her eyes are tiny pieces of reflective silver tape. It creates the feeling her eyes are watching you as you approach! Happy Halloween!

Looks incredible as always but I can’t see all the detail on my phone can’t wait till I get home and look at it on our brand new laptop. It’s going to be epic. I’ve been looking forward to this from what I can tell you shot it on the perfect day. Nice and overcast. Awesome!

Holy crap man. Amazing as always! I think this might be my new favorite haunt of yours. :) I love how much she looks like an actual (emaciated) figure! A lot of your best creatures have a skeletal, almost animated corpse feel, but she looks like she juuuuuuuuuust might be an actual person sitting there. So fun.
The silver tape trick is just outstanding. Her eyes are fantastic. I'm dying to get a closer look at that merged corpse creature too! So creepy and disturbing, I feel like I can't quite make it out. Just glimpses of body parts... where they shouldn't be.
Oh and the beautiful way your trick-or-treaters will have to cross a hex circle to get their goodies, is just "chef's kiss"! Thanks for sharing a great one! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

It is the season of the witch at your place. She is delightfully creepy. Love all the rustic, rotting crosses. If I was a treater, I'd be scared shitless.

Truly amazing and awesome. I saw Haxan back in college for my film class it was great. These shots are some of your best. The lighting, smoke, all the small details are just fantastic. Happy Halloween Rot. Enjoy the day your place will be mobbed with onlookers wish I could experience it all in person.

Happy Halloween! Your setup looks amazing! I'd be a bit creeped out approaching your witch if I were a TOTer. Wonderful.

Thanks! Was a great night for a photo shoot and despite being 82 degrees at the moment, it'll at least start to drop at sunset! So it should be a great night!

Rot said...

Thanks SOOO much, Justin! I love that you said that about the children crossing the seal..as we were joking a lot about that here..so I love that you got that litle joke on the children. haha SO glad you dug it so much!

Rot said...

haha..Thanks, Lady M!!! We really appreciate that! Should be a terrific night!

Rot said...

Thanks SOOOOO much, man! Really appreciate it!

Rot said...

Aw, thanks so much! I have a feeling it'll be a little too creepy for this neighborhood! haha

Amazing as usual, your eye for detail never fails to impress me, and everything looks like it's been there for years, which isn't an easy thing to do. How do you "age" the material you used to make the grave markers? Again, not easy to fake aging like this. Awesome.

Happy Halloween, dearest Rot! Thank you for keeping this blog alive (undead ?) all year, for providing such beautifully dark imagery, haunts, sounds and stories to make our lives a little richer, a little spookier, a little more enjoyable. A blessed Samhain to thee!

Happy Halloween!! 🎃🎃🎃 Love the Haunt! Yall have did a fantastic job! I can't imagine how the kids feel that come through this! The detail in your work speaks volumes, as always!

Happy Halloween, Rot! The haunt looks amazing. I love seeing your signature style dressed up and repackaged in new forms. You have obvious nods to previous haunts while still elevating and advancing to new heights. Incredible work. The Strawman was my favorite single prop, simply because I believed he could move at any moment. This witch may have topped him significantly.

I was also going to ask about the eyes, so thank you for sharing. I will have to experiment with that myself.

Hope your night was a blast!

Thanks, Mr M!! For the grave markers I used rotting wood from an old fence!!

Thanks so much!!!

You never cease to amaze, what an old-fresh idea, always a delight to see what you’ve conjured up! This is downright scary! Beautifully scary! Tell us how many descided to by pass this candy stop and carry on to the next place.? Would love to see her in person….. like the thresh hold for candy being on the wrong side of the hex! Loved the throne the grand dame takes seat upon. She really looks alive and in trance, did you have sound effects ? I imagine some surreal tunes playing or did you choose silence? This I need to know. Was she solid ( as in monster mud)? She looks frozen in time. An absolute genius piece. It must be getting challenging to come up with the ideas….. hope you have a million more stirring around up there! Always worth the wait, my favourite part of the high holiday, here’s to another glorious Samhain! Happy All Hallows Eve!

When to bed last night with this one sticking in my head, wonderfully done. The witch looks so natural (love the eyes). The mangled corpses are so disturbing you really have to take a hard look to see what is going on. And the cobwebs on the crosses look so realistic (No sure how you pulled that one off). So well done. Hope you had a great Halloween.

Rot said...

Thanks so much! Really appreciate it! Quite a few parents stood at the base of the walk and chose to move on with their small children. The Witch is all paper and cardboard and pvc pipes, with a later of paper towel mache under layers of lace. The music for the night was one singular track by ALLSEITS called community
GjÃķll.

Rot said...

Thank you!! Those cobwebs are from canned spray adhesive. I will post about the technique soon!

Thanks all! Hope everyone had a Haunting Halloween :)

Stunningly beautiful! And your photography is so captivating! There is a part of me that wants to see daytime photos and what it looks like in normal everyday life. But, maybe I don't.
Thank you for sharing your talent.

Well……I just went to YouTube and listened to the ambient experimental track that you used as a soundtrack to Haxan . It really should be played with the photos….. if someone isn’t getting the haunt ,the track really pulls the whole package together. Amazing, epic dark ,this will be hard to top.love, love LOVE! Haxan Bravo! Now another year to wait and wonder what’s brewing….. Thanks so much ,you are beyond compare ,The king of Halloween!

As usual you have managed to raise the bar even higher! Rot, these are sooooo beautiful! The atmosphere you have created around her is amazing....so convincing and creepy and I love the witch. Love the way you have her veiled and the throne with the skulls on either side!!!! Divine!
No one does it like you! No one. I am still on two wheels trying to catch up from and insanely busy season but am going to love going thru all of these later today to catch all of the amazing details.
I am always so inspired by your work. : )!!!

Tremendous concept, and exceptional execution!

Everything looks magical, and even through the screen, it feels COMPLETELY immersive...those are some extremely lucky ToTs.

Congratulations to you both for successfully bringing (returning?) the First Witch to life.

What a wonderful display this year. *_* Everything is so perfectly crafted, and all the little details are brilliant! You created an entire world here, and the thought of making all of this by hand is just baffling to me. Pure magic!!! Thanks for another haunting and gorgeous installment. Hope y'all had the best Halloween ever!

Is the seal on your porch fictitious, real, or something in between?

Rot said...

Definitely something in between. We call it the Seal of Dolcite. Simply by passing over it, one promises their soul to the Witch.

Wow! So dark, so creepy. I'll echo the compliment on those rotten grave markers, and I'm looking forward to reading about how you achieve the cobwebbed look.
Another masterpiece, Rot! Thank you!
