I Am The Devil. And I'm Here To Do The Devil's Work

So a lot of my coworkers who know I dig on Halloween will ask me during the Christmas season if I put up a Christmas tree.  It's usually put this way:  "So I guess you don't do a Christmas tree." (which really isn't a question at all) ...  and then, when I protest and assure them that I do indeed "put up a Christmas tree," they follow up with "...Is it all weird and scary?"  Like I'm Dr. Phibes or something.

Just curious if anyone out there gets the same treatment from friends or coworkers.  Cause to love Halloween is to hate Christmas, you see.

HA! Yes; in fact, I mentioned to two friends that I had put up the tree, and one asked if I used black ornaments, and the other asked if I used Halloween ornaments. I didn't. (Not to say I never would, but it's funny they would assume that.)
And I've also had someone assume that I'm probably NUTS about Xmas just because I'm nuts about Halloween. Like, as if I just reeeeeally love holidays in general...

funny..."yes, I'm generally into ALL holidays in a fanatical uncomfortable manner"

Yeah, I get the same thing, and also get asked if I put "scary" ornaments on the tree. I tell them that I'm more of a tasteful decorator, I may have a skull and/skeleton sitting out but it doesn't have blood and guts hanging all over it with a pentagram behind it.

Then I'll tell them "Besides, the Christmas tree is a pegan symbol not a Christian symbol. So in today's world, it actually means nothing, its just a decoration. Just like the pentagram, it's a made up symbol.

I get questions like this as well. Of course, the fact that I have worn a Krampus scarf to work, and have some of the old "Twisted Christmas" toys in my office, probably leads them to that conclusion. When they find out that my home is decorated in rather traditional Christmas trappings, it always seems to surprise them. Needless to say, I don't generally tell them that on most Christmas nights I conclude the day with a viewing of "Black Christmas"

I get the same thing, I usually tell them something like, "You should see what I do for Arbor Day!!" with a long, maniacal laugh as I walk away from them.

I also get people on instagram that assume I appear as a clown 24 hours a day, they demand direct messages with photos and videos. I should make a little video in full clown gear on the toilet. "What the hell do ya want kid? I'm busy!"

People also assume that I must decorate over the top for christmas since I do so for Halloween, I would have bloody Santa legs sticking out of my chimney and reindeer zombie carcasses in the lawn but my wife...she protests too much.

Ditto. I usually leave my scarecrow up until the New Year. Someone stole his Santa hat last year so I guess I need to get another one. Someone asked me the other day if I ever put a Santa costume on one of the skeletons. I actually thought about doing it. But no, I don't put up a tree. Two favorite Xmas movies: Meet Me in St. Louis and Nightmare Before Christmas.

Well....I'm not really into decorating for Christmas, soooo lol. When we have put a tree up, it's had a few Halloween themed ornaments on it.

I usually get just the opposite reaction. "If this is what you do for Halloween than you must go really all out for Christmas". Implication being that I must decorate more for the more important Holiday. Then I get "how can you be an Atheist and still decorate for Christmas?". Then I must give a history lesson on mid winter festivals and how Christmas was layered upon existing holidays rather than the other way around. However, I usually end that conversation with "If the government would rather provide paid holiday at Halloween, I would be thrilled and would skip Christmas altogether."

I do get this reaction a little bit, but I think it's partly because people know I have done holiday viewings of "Christmas Evil," and similar films. Plus my husband and I have done Krampus/Belsnickel outfits for the season. Now that Krampus is getting better-known, people have a little more context for our ways. But we do actually have two trees up, mostly decorated fairly straight, with family heirloom ornaments. Plus Jaws and the Alien.

Ha! I get this a lot too! Like, why wouldn't I dig Christmas just because I love Halloween? I don't see how me liking one means I must hate the other. I live for the holidays, spooky and joyful!
