What's Your Halloween Holy Grail?
It seems the olden days of Halloweening had a lot more to offer by way of unique decorations and interesting finds. Stores these days seem to offer less and have more stuff that's shiny and powdered with glitter.
So I was thinking about what would be my Holy Grail by way of walking into a store and seeing a Halloween decoration/item that would make me gasp and pray it was affordable.
For me, I think it would be some unique ceramic jack o'lantern with an incredible face and a unique finish... or some kind of creepy wall mask, like the one Peter Vincent had hanging in his apartment... or something like this vintage metal Devil ash tray (but in wall art form).

Haunted Hollow At Yankee
It takes a lot to get me to spend twenty bucks on a candle, but this thing actually smells like the description:
A spicy, spooky adventure through dark piney woods with a ghostly trail of sweet incense.

John Carpenter: Anthology
My GOD, man.
“Anthology is a near-comprehensive survey of John Carpenter’s greatest themes, from his very first movie, the no-budget sci-fi film Dark Star, to 1998’s supernatural Western, Vampires. Those sit alongside the driving, Led Zeppelin-influenced Assault on Precinct 13 theme, Halloween’s iconic 5/4 piano riff, and the eerie synth work of The Fog. Carpenter and his band also cover Ennio Morricone’s bleak, minimalist theme for The Thing.”
“We also get vital new recordings of the themes to ’80s classics and fan favorites Big Trouble in Little China, Escape From New York, Christine, and They Live, along with the romantic Starman. The collection is rounded out by the menacing, heavy themes to Prince of Darkness and In the Mouth of Madness, the latter a Metallica-inspired riff originally played for the film by Kinks guitarist Dave Davies, and now played by his son Daniel.”
Here’s the full track list:
1. “In the Mouth of Madness”
2. “Assault on Precinct 13”
3. “The Fog”
4. “Prince of Darkness”
5. “Santiago (Vampires)”
6. “Escape From New York”
7. “Halloween”
8. “Porkchop Express (Big Trouble in Little China)”
9. “They Live”
10. “The Thing”
11. “Starman”
12. “Dark Star”
13. “Christine”

Flying Humanoids
And now we've had, as of the second week of August, 29 sightings of flying humanoids in Chicago. Mostly they've been observed hovering in the air, but one took a dramatic leap off the Sears Tower, and two more performed aerial maneuvers above the Adler Planetarium. ("They flew figure eights around each other," a witness recounted. "It looked like they were dancing in a strange sort of way. It was actually quite beautiful, considering how freaking strange it was.") One of the sightings was reported by a police officer and confirmed by a self-described aspiring journalist, both of whom saw a tall, thin figure jump off an apartment building in Auburn Gresham and fly away.
