Returning To Life

It has been established that persons who have recently died have been returning to life and committing acts of murder. A widespread investigation of funeral homes, morgues, and hospitals has concluded that the unburied dead have been returning to life and seeking human victims.  It's hard for us here to be reporting this to you, but it does seem to be a fact.

Remember Beekman's Diner?

A widespread investigation of reports from funeral homes, morgues & hospitals has concluded that the unburied dead are coming back to life and seeking human victims. It's hard for us here to believe what we're reporting to you, but it does seem to be a fact.

The Living Dead

We've heard speculation, on everything from the Ozone layer and chemical weapons, to uh...  voodoo mysticism and organisms from space.

Rest In Peace: George A. Romero

One of the few horror icons I actually met in person.  What a legacy he leaves behind.
The weird tag line of Dawn of the Dead was one of the earliest memories I have of something truly scaring me..."When there's no more room in HELL, the dead will walk the EARTH."  Some kids were talking about that in grade school when the film came out, and it really REALLY got under my skin.

Birth Of The Living Dead

Can't recommend this documentary more highly.  Figured it'd be similar to past zombie docs (Doc of the Dead), with zombie walks and zombie survival guides and the condescending Max Brooks, but it's none of those things.  Just an incredibly well-made and informative tale of how Romero's Night of the Living Dead came to be.

The trailer below doesn't do it justice, so trust me.
It's currently on Netflix Streaming.

There's Nothing Wrong With The Radio. Must've Been The Station.

In the cold room at the University, we had a cadaver, a cadaver from which all limbs had been amputated. Some time early this morning, it opened its eyes and began to move its trunk. It was dead, but it opened its eyes and tried to move!

Collapse

At this hour, we repeat, these are the facts as we know them. There is an epidemic of mass murder being committed by a virtual army of unidentified assassins. The murders are taking place in villages and cities, in rural homes and suburbs with no apparent pattern nor reason for the slayings. It seems to be a sudden general explosion of mass homicide. We have some descriptions of the assassins. Eyewitnesses say they are ordinary-looking people. Some say they appear to be in a kind of trance. Others describe them as being misshapen monsters. At this point, there's no really authentic way for us to say who or what to look for and guard yourself against. Reaction of law enforcement officials is one of complete bewilderment at this hour. Police and sheriff's deputies and emergency ambulances are literally deluded with calls for help. The scene can be best described as mayhem.

Undead

There wasn't a sign of life left, except... by now, there were no more screams. I realized that I was alone, with fifty or sixty of those things just... standing there, staring at me! I started to drive, I - I just plowed right through them! They didn't move! They didn't run, or... they just stood there, staring at me! I just wanted to crush them! And they scattered through the air, like bugs.

Zombies In The News

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A car full of people dressed as zombies crashed on Interstate 84 near downtown Portland on Friday, causing initial confusion by people who witnessed the crash.
Portland Police said the car was swerving in the eastbound lanes of the freeway just east of the Lloyd District just after 9:30 p.m. when it rolled over and crashed onto its top.
Emergency crews took five victims from the crash to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said that in their investigation they learned that the people inside the car were dressed as zombie costumes and they were headed to a party at the time of the crash.
Sgt. Greg Stewart said people who witnessed the crash initially thought the victims' injuries were much more serious, because of the zombie costumes.
"We're glad that everyone is alive, despite being 'undead'," Sgt. Stewart said, referring to the costumes.
While everyone in the car was taken to the hospital, Stewart said crews are investigating the possibility that more people were in the car at the time of the crash but fled the scene on foot.
The crash halted traffic in the eastbound lanes for about an hour, reducing travel to just one lane. All eastbound lanes were opened at around 11 p.m.

They Won't Stay Dead

In 1967, a group of talented Pittsburgh-area filmmakers and actors led by director George A. Romero joined forces in order to break into the feature film business. Produced for just over $100,000, the resulting production, Night of the Living Dead, has since become widely recognized as the birth of the modern horror film. Since their meager budget did not allow for an original music score, producer Karl Hardman selected cues from the Capitol Hi-Q production music library which Romero masterfully edited into the film. The end result was spine-chilling. Although this same music had been used more than a decade earlier in low-budget efforts such as Teenagers from Outer Space, The Hideous Sun Demon and The Killer Shrews, it would become forever known as the soundtrack to Night of the Living Dead. Featuring all-new digitally restored audio from original library LPs and reels, this is the most comprehensive music score ever released in any format for the modern horror classic that just won't stay dead!

Night Of The Living Dead: Origins

The latest issue of Rue Morgue magazine features an article about an upcoming animated film dealing with the zombie apocalypse - Night of the Living Dead: Origins.

Zebediah de Sota, the film's creator, promises that "the overall scope has been intentionally designed to be the largest scale zombie film ever."

Some teaser art has been appearing on the internet. Looks very interesting and unlike standard computer animation. It's described as a cross between living paintings and comic book art.

The article ended with a brief mention of another animated film which is currently in production. Click below to watch a teaser for A.D.
