The Annual Pumpkin Carving Party

Our cool neighbors invited us to something they've been attending for over fifteen years - The Annual Pumpkin Carving Party.  It was located about an hour from here in a beautiful part of this state, with rolling hills and massive streams.  The house was located in a wooded area next to a large pond with a rowboat.  There were rows of tables with all the supplies you needed to carve your pumpkins.  And there was food and drink... loads of snacks, cider, beer, and soda.

The family takes Halloween very seriously.  And they've been hosting this party since 1982.  Old School decor hangs everywhere outside and inside their beautiful home.  You carve your pumpkins and then place them in a long row at the back of the property.  Then they're judged as everyone stands laughing and applauding.  Every orange beauty receives an award, in a made-up-on-the-spot category.  "Best Fanged Pumpkin!"  "Most Lumpy Skinned Pumpkin!"  "Best Pumpkin With A Tongue!"  And everyone receives a tiny prize wrapped in Halloween tissue paper.  We cheered with each announcement.  For each winner.

After the prizes were given out, dinner was served.  Wonderful piles of the most amazing food.  Ichabod Crane would have fainted.  Plates of meats and pastas and vegetables and salads of every variety.  It was matched only by the dessert spread... which included a number of delicious homemade pumpkin pies.

At the end of the evening, each guest removes their glowing lantern from Winner's Row and takes it home with them.  We got home and placed ours on the porch with fresh candles inside, so they'd last through the night.

Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts

Invented by Bill Post in 1964 and currently available in about a thousand flavors, the pumpkin pie varietal of Pop-Tarts is finally out.

The person who chose those Autumnal/Halloweenish colored topping crumbs deserves a raise.

I'd "Accidentally" Fall In

A row of cooks stands with their 20-foot wide, 3,699-pound pumpkin pie Saturday Sept. 25, 2010, that will be the world's largest once certified by Guinness World Records. The giant pie was baked in New Bremen Ohio and sponsored by the New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers during the town's annual Pumpkinfest. The massive pie took over thirteen hours to bake in a specially made oven.

Harvest Pumpkin Pie Cream Liqueur

It's the first-ever pumpkin pie cream liqueur and is immediately reminiscent of homemade pumpkin pie complete with the flavors of rich vanilla, brown sugar and spices.

The hunt is on.

Some information.

Thanks, Kat!

Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts

A parcel arrived today from New Hampshire. From my buddy Jon. Contained therein was an amazing array of Halloween items of every sort. And to my over-the-top excitement, there was a box of pumpkin pie pop tarts included.

And I'm not just saying this because they're beautiful and made with big beautiful (assumption) pumpkins - but they're AMAZING. Truly an incredible product. Not overly sweet, and with a strong flavor of true pumpkin pie (pumpkin is actually in the ingredients).

Just look at those colors! How could this NOT be amazing.

When/If Target finally stocks their shelves with these things, I'm going to start hoarding.

Thanks, Jon!

Pumpkin Pie Sweet Treats

Been trying to track down a holiday favorite. Last year it seemed to be in every bakery section of every supermarket. Now I can't locate them anywhere. Lofthouse's Pumpkin Pie Sweet Treats.
Anyone see them around this year? They're incredible. Little soft cookies about the size of a fig newton with a strip of pumpkin pie filling down the center with a few stripes of sweet icing and little sweet crumbs sprinkled on top. I miss them.

Here's a pic from the Lofthouse site. It's the one between the yellow-frosted cookie and the pink star.
