Fortunes

Number 9 is pretty cruel for such a sugary list of fortunes.

Trick R Treat

A trailer for the DVD/Blue-ray release coming [supposedly] in October.

Fourth from the left is my favorite (the flat pumpkin).

Reanimated

We watched NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD last night. I always seem to forget what an amazing film it is.

Found this neat project on Dread Central:

"Reanimated is a new way of making Romero’s classic tale come to life; artists are encouraged to create their own animated version of NotLD with the only restrictions being that the animation has to match the film’s original soundtrack, has to be in black and white, and has to
be original artwork."

Silver Screen Ghosts

Neat information about the wonderful ghosts seen at the end of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Those were the inspiration for my short Ghost videos on my site:
Ghost I
Ghost II

I shot those by pulling a ghost prop away from a camera, then played it back in reverse and in slow motion and fooled around with the levels and the clarity to make it blurry and ghost-like.

Now Playing: Cities In Fog

An old favorite in my library of dark ambient drone.

The track Among Icebergs always reminds me of the "electronic realization" music in Carpenter's THE FOG (music when they first show Blake and his men [not on the score release]).

Attics, Witches, And Pumpkin Sentinels

Visited the folks' house this weekend to slither into the attic and start collecting some supplies for the 2009 display. Brought home a bunch of stuff to get started on. After all these years, I realize that I associate a large part of Halloween with the dusty smell of an attic. Back in the days of my youth when I still lived at home, I can remember times my brother and I talked about putting some sleeping bags up there and spending the night in the cramped space of the attic. Not sure if our parents shot down the idea or if we just chickened out, but we never did it. The insulation fibers in my lungs probably would have been a neat sensation come morning. Or the nails poking through from the roofing would have done a number on my skull in the event I woke up and forgot where I was and sprung up too fast. And then there's the creepy darkness. That's probably what did it for us. Why we didn't camp out up there. Not even once.

A line from Ray Bradbury's poem In-Between goes: "Attics are awful and lovely." And I agree.

Going to be working these coming weeks like a fiend on the Corn Witch display. The Witches will get a make-over. Other props will be created, so there will be a lot of additions and surprises. Two creatures I'm going to get started on will be The Pumpkin Sentinels. They're going to be at the base of the walk to greet anyone that's brave enough to make the long walk to the porch for candy. And it's going to be a VERY long walk this year. I promise.

Cross Or Skull

We were in Walgreens this weekend and spotted a trinket for the dashboard - a bright blue LED skull. Pretty nifty. Plugs into the charger and emits a crazy bright amount of cool blue light. There were two varieties: a cross and a skull. I went with the evil skull.

Here are some other models.

Devil's Demise?

I bet his head grows back? Or he's already switched himself with a devil-masked friend of the executioner.

Old School fun.

Pumpkin Head Tree Ghost

I can think of a few variations on this, but the basic form is pretty cool. Halloween Old School at its best - a pumpkin-headed ghost. I'd buy one of those foam pumpkins from Target or Walmart and carve my own face (or one of the ones that already has a neat face for a quick prop). I'd beef up the shoulders and chest with some white plastic trash bags stuffed with newspaper and wrapped tightly with plastic tape. Then I'd glue gun strips and strips of the cheesecloth to the body. A bunch of layers.

Watchers

Going through old photos of some great haunts this morning and loved the title of this one:

"Costume Critics"

Now Playing: Something Wicked This Way Comes

Playing the soundclips, that is.

I've been waiting for an official release of this score for quite some time. I managed to get a copy back when Napster was free and loaded with bootlegged gems.

Just ordered this one this morning.
