The Ghosts And Scarecrow Boy

That's me on the left, dressed as the thing I would become obsessed with in the decades to follow...

And I love my brother's monster hands for that Ghost costume (right).

A Lost-And-Gone One-Ring Mexican Circus

The ticket-seller lurched in, bringing with him the Victrola which he banged onto a band platform near the ring. In a great shower of sparks and minor explosions, he plugged it in, looked around, shrugged, spun a record, poised the needle. We could have either a live band or live acrobats and trapeze artists. We chose the latter.

The huge circus began—small.

Now a sword-swallower choked on a sword, sprayed kerosene in a gout of flame, and wandered out to applause from five small girls.

Three clowns knocked each other across the ring and bounded off to aching silence.

Halloween Horrors

This one has it all going on.  Ghosts, Ghouls (assumption), Devils (with a real store-bought plastic trident), and a paper skeleton on the door... and two baskets of what appears to be chocolate bars (hoping my mother was giving out a name brand or I officially know from where I received my gives-crap-candy genes).

That Year I Was A Mouse

Ugh.  It's important to note that I was technically a Wizard and NOT Mickey Mouse.  And this costume was more of a celebration of the film FANTASIA than a tribute to a Disney character.  A pretty mature thing to do, if I do say so myself.

Great framing, Mom.

Lunar Light Company

These are some high-end super-scented candles.

I've ordered a few of them and the scent descriptions are spot-on (usually scent descriptions embellish and flat-out lie [I'm bitter]).

Here are some from their site:

A smoky & haunting scent, smoked woods and spicy cloves mingle with pine needles and herbs. Autumn leaves fall on a bed of earthy sage and moss. Imagine a cool & grey graveyard colored in red, gold and brown leaves - This is Autumn in the Graveyard.

Notes: Smoked Woods - Leaves - Clove - Pine - Sage - Moss

Wet leaves on top of damp earth. Rich birch wood highlighted with dirt, oak wood and aged tree bark. This scent will transport you to the creepiest town around, Shadyside Ohio.

Notes: Leaves - Birch - Earth - Dirt - Petrichor - Garden Mint.

Ohhh, haunted….Soft and delicate, ripe purple figs and cinnamon bark mingle with notes of pine needle, winter woods, and creamy sandalwood. Reminiscent of a quiet, peaceful, snowy graveyard.

Notes:  Fig - Cinnamon Bark - Pine Needle - Frosted Cedar - Sandalwood

Sweet incense and moss on a bed of aged wood and damp leaves. Patchouli musk and oak wood provides a rich and dark finishing base to this spellbinding fragrance. Warning: this scent may have you grab the nearest broom and will have you flying into the night!

Notes: Incense - Moss - Aged Wood - Patchouli - Musk - Oak Wood

This fragrance starts with spicy black pepper and strong notes of teakwood and cardamom for a sharp edge. Earthy wet moss, vetiver and hints of citrus fruits give it a natural base. Dark, alluring, and strangely romantic!

Notes: Teakwood - Black Pepper - Cardamom - Vetiver - Citrus - Moss

Ghouls

I remember wearing that garish skull mask.  Have never seen anything like them in any of the photos I've scoured over the years looking for blog material.  Pretty neat.

I like that we did the sheet thing a couple of times back then.  You also never really see that these days either.  In all of my years handing out candy, I've never seen a rubber or plastic mask on a kid wrapped in a white or black sheet.  Literally never.

I'm officially that old guy saying "Back in MY day we MADE our own costumes, out of rags and scraps!"

2 Ghosts 1 Witch

My dumb dad cut the eye and mouth holes larger to allow us to breathe and see better, because of the number of trick-or-treater deaths and accidents related to not cutting the eye and mouth holes larger.

Satan: Age Five

Got my hands on the ol' family photo albums.

That's me dead center, as Mephistopheles himself.
I remember the costume, and wearing it, but my brain has zero memory of the tinfoil trident I'm holding.
