Corpse Flower: Take A Zip

From Art in the Age:

Tamworth Distilling explores the fine line between funky and floral, decay and bouquet with House of Tamworth Corpse Flower – embodying a curious blend of attraction and repulsion that makes up some of the world’s most famous aphrodisiacs. In isolating and highlighting each natural pheromone, Tamworth Distilling creates a complex and utterly unique drinking experience you won’t find anywhere else. Opening the bottle to that completely unique scent, sippers will find themselves enjoying a sweet & sophisticated spirit that is nothing short of alluring.

There’s no need to wait decades to experience the allure, uncork the bottle and let the Corpse Flower bloom, right on your tongue.

TASTING NOTES

The aroma of Corpse Flower carries warm candy apple notes up front, followed by the beguiling scent of decomposing jasmine blossoms and ripe cantaloupe. Funky fungus and decaying forest floor aromas waft from the glass, alternating with a tropical smell between pineapple and banana. The texture is lush and creamy, with a gentle bite of spirit. The flavor is slightly sweet and musky, layered delicately with the fruitiness of the apple and a note of overripe mango, as well as a pungent kick reminiscent of truffles and stinky cheese.

Nightlight

The camera had moved again.

She sighed as she stared into her phone. She was tired. SO tired. Everyone is quick to tell you the horrible birth stories, and the magic of unconditional love. No one talks about the everyday fatigue, constant demands, unending attention. She felt that was the hardest part. The camera was a blessing at first - she could see her daughter from any room in the house, anywhere on the property, actually. She felt like she was finally getting her life back when the baby slept. But now, as it had done every day for the past week, the camera had drifted from her sleeping daughter and over to the small lamp in the corner they used as a nightlight.

She had reset her password. She had her husband check the wall mount. But still, every afternoon during nap time, the camera would drift off into the corner. She never saw it moving. One moment it was on her daughter, the next, on the lamp. "Fuck it," she thought. A storm was moving in, and the overcast sky was begging for a nap. "I can still hear her," she mused, pulling the covers around her.

She woke to thunder shaking the house, and something else. She listened for a cry, a wail, but heard nothing. As hard as she tried, she couldn't fall back asleep. Checking her phone, she noticed her daughter's room was dark. Very dark. Save for the flickering lamp in the corner. And then, movement. She could just make out the shape of her daughter crawling on the floor, towards the lamp. She had never done that before, never gotten out of her crib, and as she ran down the hallway staring down at her phone, a man's voice stopped her cold.

"What a pretty girl! You are so pretty....I'd hang you like a lantern!"

The lamp flickered out.

Blanton's Bourbon And Some Dark Tales

Some night reading and some Blanton's.   It's some fine stuff.  Hard to come by in these parts.  Always sells out fast, and you basically have to know someone.  Fortunately, I know someone.

The book is pretty great too.

The Masks Of The Halloween Tree

If you've read Ray Bradbury's The Halloween Tree, you know the illustrations below very well.  They appear with each new chapter page in his wonderful book.  Joseph Mugnaini's artwork, at this point, is as much a part of The Halloween Tree as Bradbury's own words.

Best Friends?

Most horror reviews of FRIGHT NIGHT (1985) mention that Ed Thompson was the best friend of the main character Charlie Brewster.  Even the lesser-known sequel makes mention of Charlie's "best friend" Ed.  But it's always bugged me because it's pretty well established that Charlie was getting on Ed's last nerve, and treated him rather poorly.  I present the below evidence as Exhibit A.

Still Searching...

...For this kid's pumpkin mask...
LOOK at that red witch hat.  And the matching trident.

These costumes are crazy good.
(No clue of the image source.)

The Masks Of Connor Deless

These are pretty amazing masks.  The skulls are unmatched, in my opinion.  And I want that old dusty-looking skull mask.

Thanks, Samhain!

Confession: Hocus Pocus

So I finally did it:  I watched a film to which I have been exceptionally and unfairly cruel.  Hocus Pocus, including its cast (yeah, even Bette Midler), is quite wonderful.  I will definitely make this an annual viewing tradition.
