Haunted Eve: The Blog

The Halloween blog of the Haunted Eve Home Haunt has been around since 2010 (and it's still going!).  I've featured images from their amazing Haunt many times on this blog (Click here to see 'em).  So many wonderful entries and some of the best jack-o'-lanterns you'll ever see.

R.I.P.: Party Store

Found out that a local party supply store is going out of business at the end of the month.  It's been there forever, and it was part of the annual Halloween store checklist each season.  Sad to see it go, so I wanted to post one last photo gallery for posterity.

Chilling Cocktails

A really neat cocktail book with some spooky variations of classic drinks.  We made the first official round last night and it's going to be a ton of fun picking a movie and its correlating cocktail as we get closer and closer to Halloween.

Haunted Parlors And Candy Dreams

Speaking of Halloween blogs...

One of the few that have stood the test of time is Lady M's Haunted Parlor.  Entries started way back in 2011 with life musings, Halloween decor and props, spooky gardening, recipes, Creepmas, and loads and loads of pumpkins (and skulls).

Click below for the blog and poke around for a while.

Blue

There's a wonderful post over at the October Branches Halloween blog.  Tjalgahorn explored a topic that could make or break a Home Haunt - lighting.  And in particular... blue lighting.  It's a terrific entry and feels like a blog post from the old days of Halloween blogs.  When you could take a break at work during lunch or pour some coffee on a weekend and go see what people were featuring.  Much slower pace than the modern form of social media.  Maybe a dozen (or more) regularly-updated blogs... paragraphs of thought for your reading pleasure.  Funny stories, prop how-to's, Haunt photo galleries, movie trailers, random life stories...  all out there in the blogosphere.  Not many of us left these days, and that makes T's post extra special to this guy.

Chilly Morning

Temps in the 60's at the moment, going up to 81 today.  Not too shabby.  Clove incense in the garden, windchimes gabbing away, and all the windows open.

And the garden has never been so full.

I was never one to dig on Summer and saw it as a thing to wait through like a long drive on a bus with a broken air conditioner.  Porch sitting, gardening, a cool wind off the ocean, and the late-night sound of summer bugs high in the trees have forced me to reconsider that.  Kinda like opening a window on that bus and realizing there was a nice breeze out there all along.

Wicked Ways

Halloween was the time she figured most prominently in our thoughts. First because she was a witch, of course, and second because of a time-honored ritual among the neighborhood children concerning her and ourselves and that evening of the year.
