Stained Glass Cobweb

Showing off an insanely wonderful piece made by fellow blogger and talented artist Lady M.  It's absolutely exquisite and seems to catch light from every angle, both in the daytime and at night.  I feel like it's always been there, hanging between the dining room and the living room.  It's perfect.

Cider And Fire Pits

We took a trip to the Ironbound Farm and Ciderhouse this weekend and enjoyed some amazing cider in the most perfect and rustic setting.  Ordered a flight and food at the bar and then moved outside to a nice fire and enjoyed some drinks.  Will definitely be heading back soon.

Some of their neater offerings:

DEVIL’S HARVEST
TART. JUICY. SUBLIME.
Infused with dry-harvested Pine Barrens cranberries and tart cherries, with a hint of white pepper in the finish.

JUNIPER HARD CIDER
Juniper berries impart aromas of rosemary, lime peel, lemon, and subtle green apple in this rich, dry, intensely aromatic cider.

CAPE MAY ROSÉ
A sweet-yet-dry summer infusion of Cape May beach plums and Ironbound farm-harvested aronia berries.

Haunted Graveyard - A Halloween Cocktail

Bourbon
Maple syrup
Fresh orange
Bitters
Rosemary stems

Not a very spooky recipe, but it sure looks neat.  I think I would switch out the maple syrup for some Amaro Montenegro (40 botanicals including vanilla, orange peels and eucalyptus).

R.J. MacReady's Drinking Glass

When you've seen John Carpenter's THE THING a thousand times, you notice little things.  Oddly, one of those things was MacReady's scotch glass when he was playing a game of computer chess (before destroying the fictional chess computer by pouring his drink into a convenient panel for sore losers).  That glass became something of a thrift store Holy Grail and I'd find myself walking the shelves of old glassware hoping to stumble upon something similar, if not the actual style and design.

Last weekend we visited a large Salvation Army store, and as I did the usual stroll, I stopped in front of four glasses.  Were they the ones?  At $0.99 a piece, they became the ones.  We even ran out and got some "rare" bottom shelf scotch to celebrate.

Cheers, MacReady!

Snowy Cemetery

Love how this layer of snow looks on this home haunt.  I'd imagine folks who live in areas where snow is a possibility on Halloween aren't the biggest fans of the white stuff covering up their hard work, but it definitely seems cemetery-friendly (though I'd be pretty miserable if I had to deal with snow during our setup and display).

Halloween Spirit

This past Halloween season, I was alerted by a few people that Spirit Halloween was selling a prop that resembled a scarecrow that I had featured on my blog...one that I had built for the film MR. JONES.  I took a look and definitely felt it was a rip-off.  The combination of weird long fingers, vintage dress, and an almost out-of-place doll head seemed too much to be a coincidence.  So I reached out to Spirit.  One of their lawyers responded telling me that he didn't see the similarity and that Spirit purchased the prop from another company.  He didn't tell me the name of the company, but I had already been informed by one of the folks who had initially alerted me that the company's name was Tekky Toys.  After a couple more emails from me, he simply stopped replying.  Their position was clear.  They just don't care.

I chose to sit on this and just move forward, as proving something like this legally is very difficult and very expensive.  Today I saw the below video from an artist on Instagram and wanted to share her familiar story, and my little experience.

Catacombs Of The Montresors

At the most remote end of the crypt there appeared another less spacious. Its walls had been lined with human remains, piled to the vault overhead, in the fashion of the great catacombs of Paris. Three sides of this interior crypt were still ornamented in this manner. From the fourth the bones had been thrown down, and lay promiscuously upon the earth, forming at one point a mound of some size. Within the wall thus exposed by the displacing of the bones, we perceived a still interior recess, in depth about four feet, in width three, in height six or seven. It seemed to have been constructed for no especial use within itself, but formed merely the interval between two of the colossal supports of the roof of the catacombs, and was backed by one of their circumscribing walls of solid granite.

Cauldron Halloween Stake

I swear I haven't gone soft, but this looks really neat.  Imagine it in a garden...near some twisted sticks and branches, with some fake webs (click on the video at the link and ignore the dreadful music).

Lit Sinister Scarecrow

Such a neat design.  I really dig the Gammell/Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark vibe.  Love the glowing eyes.

Fire And Brimstone

“If I can but reach that bridge,” thought Ichabod, “I am safe.” Just then he heard the black steed panting and blowing close behind him; he even fancied that he felt his hot breath. Another convulsive kick in the ribs, and old Gunpowder sprang upon the bridge; he thundered over the resounding planks; he gained the opposite side; and now Ichabod cast a look behind, to see if his pursuer should vanish, according to rule, in a flash of fire and brimstone.

Winter Fear

Is it just winter
or is this worse.
Is this the year
when outer damp
obscures a deeper curse
that spring can’t fix,
when gears that
turn the earth
won’t shift the view,
when clouds won’t lift
though all the skies
go blue.
