I'm not one for cussing but what the EFF??? A FEMALE Freddy? Seriously the author of that story just lost me. And the comments aren't much better. Lol. I'm pretty sure they won't go female but still....can't Hollywood leave the good ones alone?

Agreed.
Just come up with a NEW horror icon, Hollywood.
you KNOW there's a script sitting in some pile and it's the most amazing NEW horror creation.

Um, NO. We do not need another Nightmare on elm street remake please.

Makes no sense unless you assume Hollywood is just deliberately steering for the iceberg, now.

Hollywood has run out of ideas, remaking remakes! Like Rot said, we need NEW horror icons for a new generation. Unfortunately, the studios only want sure bets. They play it safe to such a degree that they only go with proven commodities...and it really sucks.

I'm not opposed to seeing new interps of classics, but if you go that route...don't do another remake. Is a demonic spirit who lives in the dreamworld THAT hard to explain? Can't a line or two of dialogue do that well enough? Most of all...does anyone REALLY need to see the same old story over and over? Of all the classic slasher franchises, Elm St. may be the most versatile and adaptable to new interpretation. It's NIGHTMARES...everyone has had them, and ANYTHING can occur in them. A truly frightening film could be made that doesn't rehash the previous entries in the series...all it would require is GETTING CREATIVE!!! Of course, if Hollywood had any creativity, we'd be seeing completely new stories and characters, not going back to the thirty year-old, tapped-out well.

I probably hate this less than hearing Universal is giving all their classic monsters the "Marvel" treatment in the coming years. Ugh.

It's hard to hold material like Elm Street to that level - because 45 minutes into even the first WC Elm Street movie the franchise became muy estupido.
(right about the point where Freddie stops whispering and starts spewing cliches in a gurgling monster voice the whole thing goes south)

Remake it, sequel it, mash it up - I don't care.

Freddy will always be my favorite, despite the one liners that plagued the sequels I've always held out hope that the promise of the original would someday be expanded upon, improved even, just hasn't happened. So like an abused pet I suppose, I'll continue to hope that the character and the premise someday get their due.

Freddy got his due in the glorious first 30 minutes of the first movie.
NoES is not a terribly complicated scheme - Freddie gets revenge then then Freddy get his again.
Does anyone remember a flick called Dreamscape that had David Patrick Kelly as a villainous "dream jumper" who in one dream sequence scene had long razor fingernails?
Always wondered if WC borrowed elements from that character. DPK (Warriors, come out to play) always struck me as frightening.

I actually really enjoyed the first film all the way through.
I remember seeing it for the first time at a friend's house and at the time it was unlike anything out there. And I loved Dreamscape...we actually saw that at a $1.00 theater back when it came out.

I even found elements of the second Nightmare film to be really chilling...despite the odd elements in that film.

Freddy'll always be something amazing to me. An angry bitter killer who got an unfair second chance at being an angry bitter killer....

I'd like to see it go full on dark and dirty, almost pushing the R rating limits, make something so brutal that word of mouth would be over the top. Intelligent, but undoubtedly straddling the gutter, one of the kids has a dog and Fred not only guts it and takes the head off, but rolls it to the feet of the owner.

I had forgotten about Dreamscape, some very chilling stuff, great 80's film. Then again Dennis Quaid has always been on my Freddy remake short list, as is Ben Foster who reminds me somewhat of DPK.

New Nightmare is a Masterpiece!!

people don't want new horror films, they just wanna say they do, but really they would rather just complain about sequels & whatever else. there are sooooo many horror movies suggested on soooooo many different blogs & do most people check em out?. Nope, they just "say' they love horror & that's that. so whatever. don't seek & you will never find.
