Scary Scores

Neat article over at Bloody Disgusting:
Which Horror Scores Actually Scare You...
As a guy who loves film music and dark ambient stuff, I have to ponder this one.
The Fog?, Silent Hill?, Suspiria?,... Halloween?

Still thinking, cause those films I mentioned are amazing scores, but I can't say they scare me.

Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack to 'Alien' has a few selections that scare me. Lots of weird instrumentation.

I almost mentioned Goldsmith's Alien score.
The music during the space jockey scene is truly scary.

The Exorcist music is scary to me. I can still remember being a small child lying in bed at night and a commercial for The Exorcist came on while my parents were watching tv. It was terrifying.

that's a great choice.
tubular bells. like the Halloween theme...it's forever tied to a memory of a horror film.

and tubular bells is tied to far worse...the fear of being possessed. something I feared my entire youth.

i'm gonna go with Fabio Frizzi's theme for Fulci's Zombie. he really captures the sound of dreaddddd. Fabios's coming to town too & i CAN'T wait..<333

Halloween & Exorcist even sound alike. great tunes.

I would have to include the main theme from The Omen S a n c t u s...... Spi ri tus.. I couldn't get that one out of my head for days, though I have to go with Jerry Goldsmith's Alien as my sentimental favorite.

Carnival of Souls!! :-)

Tobe Hooper and Wayne Bell's soundtracks to Texas Chainsaw and Eaten Alive scare me. Pure madness. I love Carl Zitter's scores in Black Christmas, Deranged, and Deathdream too.

Lalo Schifrin's Amityville theme always spooked me also.

My sentimental fave is Halloween most definitely. It's actually comforting.

To go in a completely different direction, I absolutely love the Wojciech Kilar soundtrack for Dracula. Some beautiful, sweeping sounds in there.

Have to go with Alien as well, dark, dark horse is the music played whenever Joker hits the screen in TDK.

NO man i have not. & believe me when i say, i surely made up for lost time with how many times i have listened to it tonight!!. ok, so i'm listenin & lovin on it & feelin like i know it somehow? i'm feelin this strong 70's like, million dollar movie of the week vibe. i'm even feelin a 70's sorta exploitation thing goin on & for a sec, my eyes fall on my starsky & hutch box set, soooo, i look the dude up & BAM!!!..omgggg he's HIM, Mr. Mission Impossible, Starsky & Hutch, Dirty Harry & every
nice. i also read how he did the original score for The Exorcist & it was way too scary, so the suits asked Friedkin to tell em to tone it down some &&&& yes, Friedkin screwed him over & purposely didn't tell em what they said, so yeah, his score was thrown out. that's pretty sad & scandalous too. anyways...i LOVE his Jaws. i'll see what i can find in the record stores over the weekend. Thank You SO much Mr H... i honestly don't think i woulda heard this tune or known of this king properly without you tellin me...<333333

i checked out some of the Sixth Sense tracks again tonight, they're such scary beauties. then i got to thinkin about The Shining with it's beautiful classical tracks. & to seal the deal of a perfect night, i had my first pumpkin spice coffee from the wawa up the street. life's good. : D

ohhhh & i think one of the sweeetest horror movie tunes is the theme song from Rosemary's Baby, hummed by Mia Farrow herself no less...sighhh
i'm Obsessed..i want to hear everrrything that is Spooky!! : D
