The face on that punkin head, it's just perfect in it's imperfections...like it grew that way. The intricate layering of texture in each figure is astonishing.
I could go on analyzing this with bigger, broader and more far reaching superlatives but...
This just kicks major ass in a hundred thousand different ways. Subtle and bold, simple while being alarmingly detailed.
This almost seems autobiographical to me, could be way off.
Let me be one of the first to say "I absolutely love this", every last sinewy branch of it, but you probably knew I would.

These are absolutely wonderful. If you look close on these props, you can see the time and detail put into these.
They almost look like friendly greeters, but the Strawman probably has other intentions. :D

Hauntingly beautiful as always. The skeletal twig hands are so great; I can't stop looking at them. I love all of the organic elements of the straw man and the jacko scarecrow. They look like they just crawled out of a swamp. A very Happy Halloween to you and Ms Bean 🎃👻💀
I set my alarm for 2:20 am...but got up at 11:45 and headed out into the wet morning.

We awoke to high winds blowing things about - a haunters worst nightmare. I love your pumpkin head with the green glowing face and all your retro Jacks. It is beautiful to hear you talk of Bean.

he's looks ancient. like...once upon a time he was a god made of sacred flames that slowly burned away from the passing of each Halloween, until he was almost nothing left, save for the soft earthen embers of his thoughts. something has stirred his heart now, tempting it to dream again, of the old days, when his straw limbs were burning flames that lit the way. he's your don quixote dude!!!! your straw don quixote.

Aww! I loves him! He's like an elemental of sorts.. A lord of the sticks.. he's got a benevolence about him. Great job! I finished my Samhain creeper by the skin of my teeth yesterday... my husband and I were throwing our humble porch haunt together right up to the sun set. I seriously have to get more organized... Happy Halloween to you and your wife!! You're incredibly inspiring! Keep up the great work!

Well, I’ve been following your work for over six years now, and though I’ve long gotten bored with the whole haunting thing myself, I still check this blog daily and look forward to the unveiling of your haunt each year… and it never once disappoints.
I hope you don’t take it the wrong way when I say that ‘Night Of The Strawman’ feels like your most stripped-back year to date, because it also feels like the most deeply evocative. For me, the symmetry and minimalism is what makes it so bold. Iconographic even, like something out of a stained glass window from the church of Halloween. I guess there was a similar thing going on with your 2014 haunt, but for some reason that one didn’t click with me quite like this does.
The success of the whole set-up rides on the bristly back of that one figure, and by god does it carry it. Those green-faced scarecrows look absolutely wonderful, but the Strawman himself must be one of my favorite individual pieces of yours ever… I’d probably try to buy it off you if it weren’t for the shipping costs. And I’m with Jeff about it seeming almost autobiographical - good thing you’ve never posted any photos of yourself here, because I’m pretty sure this is how many of your followers picture you. I certainly do now.
It’s been amazing to watch your artistic style become gradually more refined… your pieces seem to become more distinctly ‘Pumpkinrot’ with each year. It’s in the little things like the gradual replacement of rolled-newspaper ribcages with torsos woven entirely of sticks and sinew, and the establishment of trademark elements like limb joints tied with lashes and lashes of rough twine, or hunched backs that seem to have miniature jagged forests protruding from them. It’s stuff like this that, to me, elevates your work from superbly creative Halloween decorating to genuine, put-it-in-a-goddamn-gallery art. But I’m sure you’d never let that happen, so I guess I’ll just have to stop by your place one Halloween in the future and see it for myself as it’s meant to be seen.
Anyway, this has been embarrassingly gushy but I don’t comment on here much anymore, so I just needed to get all that out of my system (not like I held back in the past or anything). A thousand thanks to you and Bean for doing all that you do… I hope that one day you’ll be properly recognized for it outside of this funny little Halloween-loving community.

I love the Strawman poem! And I want to say how amazingly primative this year is while still telling a great story. We don't know his history, but it's is probally ancient and legendary. You have this gift of setting a scene like in those vintage postcards. Your storytelling is fantastic! The essence of Halloween that we all long for. By November, I am exhausted, and want to turn off the Halloween chip in my brain, but alas, it is not so. I have so many ideas swimming in my head due to all of the inspirations from you and everyone else. Thank you, Rot and Bean.

The Strawman's story is fun to think about. He looks very contemplative - like he is in deep thought about his next move. I like the minimal aspect of this year's haunt Rot. Ditto what Marrow said. So glad y'all had a good Halloween and kudos to Mrs. Rot!!
As is customary now I suppose, two more cents to the pot.
I'm a huge fan of the Blinds...The Blind Sentinels, anyone that's into this at all and knows me will tell you that I worship them like the original Krueger, original Halloween, Pumpkinhead design, on and on...in home haunting there is no equal in my mind, they are perfect. I have a favorite one, but that's between me and Halloween man here.
I love everything you do and basically begin my October 31st in the wee hours of each year ready to pounce on my desktop at 6am to see what I'll be admiring for the next 364 days.
Strawman, is amazing, his back, his pose, his hands...the back of his hands, every rope, every fiber, every tooth. The detail in this is astonishing...you have a new champion in my eyes. I look at this and see the love and passion that drips from you as you piece him together. Again...as Marrow echoed...(Hi Marrow!), I believe it to be autobiographical, Strawman could be you, peering...smiling into the spirit, the soul of Halloween and manifesting perfection with your dark gifts. I have other thoughts I'm not so certain of, M (Bean)...is she all that surrounds? The embers? The totem behind Strawman...ready to support him if need be? I will leave that to the mystery that is Pumpkinrot...as it should be.

As always, KILLER job Rot and Bean! Your haunt is synonymous with my Halloween experience, and this year did not disappoint. What gets me every time is the organic nature of your creatures: they always look as if they've just sprung alive, either by some ancient spell or the magic of Halloween itself. The strawman is very creepy, and incredibly effective.

As a lover of Halloween since I was a little girl in Australia and since moving to the US a few years ago and am now fully able to enjoy Halloween. I have to say all of your creations make my little black heart extremely happy. I am in total awe of all of your hard work that is put into every tiny detail.
I am fairly sure we are in the same state, I just wish that one day I could stumble across your display and be awe of it in person! I look forward to seeing what is coming for this year.
