Now Watching: Miami Vice

Trust me.  There's a very Halloween-blog-relevant aspect to the below scene from Miami Vice.  Man, I remember watching this every Friday Night (don't judge me).

Click below for solid coolness...

Yup. Watched it too. I remember this scene. You should wear a linen suit and pastel colors and pose in from of you neighborhood stone wall with the hand. Playing some Michael Mann music, of course!
BTW, leather dress shoes with no socks in Florida equals sweaty feet.

And when I worked at Chili’s in high school, I knew a waiter who was an extra on a Miami Vice episode. He would talk about it always.

that is so funny. You'd be like "hey, how's table five?" and he'd say "Did I ever tell you about the time I was 'guy on bike' on Miami Vice?"

I like to use the 80's and 90's TV, music and movies to take me away from current difficult times. Such good decades......

Willow Cove said...

Yup. Exactly. He would spend so much time fixing his hair in the back and the busboys would go by and mess it up! We had no respect for the coolness in our presence

yeah, i can relate. simpler times with a lot of fine art by way of tv entertainment.
and movies.

Oh speaking of art and TV, they are bringing back Futurama! Good news everyone!

Love this, and no judgement here...it WAS solid coolness! ;)

That show not only survived the 'death slot' in Friday night prime time programming, but thrived,(thanks to cool kids like us, I'm sure) so it had to have something going for it.

I still say that this was THE place to be at that time on a Friday night.

These days, it's easy to take the grittier series, big budgets, slick production, real music, etc. for granted (nevermind the abundance of on-demand choice), but I'd say that 'Miami Vice' provided inspiration, if not a blueprint, for some of those later shows.

However, for those of us that were there, and only had three networks from which to choose, we remember that the other big options were:

The Cosby Show
Family Ties
Murder, She Wrote
60 Minutes
Cheers
Dallas
Dynasty
The Golden Girls
Who's the Boss?
Night Court

...Blech

Now I need to go see where I can stream some Miami Vice....

Wow..look at that lineup! awful.

hey, ever watch Michael Mann's CRIME STORY? I was so into every season of that one.
A forgotten gem.

Rot said...

There were no mummified corpses in CRIME STORY or I'd post a scene.

Revenant Manor said...

Yeah, Crime Story!

Good noir / crime stuff with a serialized approach at a time when you had to watch every episode if you didn't want to lose the thread. (no internet to help you keep up)

Good stuff that didn't last long enough, and there's a nice Dennis Farina connection between them, too.

I'm not sure why it's been forgotten the way it has, but the whole thing is on YouTube for anyone that missed it the first time around (if they can suffer through the ads, of course)

They were all babies back then! Good grief!

And that was wonderfully noir.

We were all babies back then... sitting in on a friday night... with my parents.. when I should have been out.. But Crockett was SOOOO coool.

Weirdly, despite being totally familiar with the music, fashion, & aesthetic of Miami Vice, I've never managed to catch a single episode even though I grew up during its era. That scene was intense AF and now I want to watch more.

Cool!
And yeah, this episode in particular stuck with me over the years.

Wow man.. I dig you're into Miami Vice!! I harken back to times from the past when I was young & when trends long gone are now treasured. I ended up purchasing the whole MV series on dvd. Gotta capture the past so you don't forget where you came from. Good ole days!! Thanks man!!!
