Nathicana

It was in the pale garden of Zaïs;
The mist-shrouded gardens of Zaïs,
Where blossoms the white nephalotë,
The redolent herald of midnight.
There slumber the still lakes of crystal,
And streamlets that flow without murm’ring;
Smooth streamlets from caverns of Kathos
Where brood the calm spirits of twilight.
And over the lakes and the streamlets
Are bridges of pure alabaster,
White bridges all cunningly carven
With figures of fairies and daemons.
Here glimmer strange suns and strange planets,
And strange is the crescent Banapis
That sets ’yond the ivy-grown ramparts
Where thickens the dust of the evening.
Here fall the white vapours of Yabon;
And here in the swirl of vapours
I saw the divine Nathicana.

Mutant Maggots Macabre Creations: The Art Of Leon Crompton

This talented artist and creator of vile things passed away recently.  May he be in the land of perpetual Autumn, where Halloweens (and Guy Fawkes Days) last a billion years, with bonfires, falling leaves like snow, and an endless sea of pumpkins smiling fire.

The Porch For Christmas

Over the years...

People at Work:  "I guess you make evil elves for Christmas?"
Me:  "No."

People at Work:  "You probably put out the Grinch for Christmas?"
Me:  "No."

People at Work:  "I guess you hate Christmas."
Me:  "No."

People at Work:  "I bet you do a dead Santa for Christmas?"
Me:  "I'll kill you."

I told someone today I made a Nativity scene with rats.  Three wise rats, two happy parent rats, and in an old tin can cut in half longways and filled with hay - 9 pink baby rats.

I dig Christmas.

The Wreath Witch Curse: UPDATE

Original Post:  October 13, 2017

I work in a very large department...  not that many people, but a giant work area with a lot of unused space.  The entire building is getting refurbished one department at a time, and our old outdated vile wing was asked to consolidate itself onto one side of the wing while visiting departments can inhabit the empty side while their department wings were being stripped down and refurbished.  So it's been a couple years of new neighbors showing up every few months.  It's like getting to know and being annoyed at horrible neighbors/tenants moving in next to your home many times a year.  And knowing they're moving on to nicer homes/apartments and you're still stuck in your old one til God-knows-when.

Early this week, one of the women on the new side, without getting permission or taking a poll, hung something like this wreath (this is actually way nicer so I suspect she might have made hers).

She hung it on the two giant automated doors at the entrance of our department (important to note she hung it on the door on OUR side of the wing).  There was great hooting and hollering on the day she brought it in and I heard her say many times "I LOVE HALLOWEEN!" (I think I might have hissed like a vampire seeing a cross).

Well, four people asked me this week:  "You put that wreath up?"

THAT wreath....the one with the striped witch legs and tiny glittery witch hat and clumps of shiny silver tulle.

UPDATE:  They fixed the door yesterday.  The door now opens mechanically, unaware that instead of a cursed wreath hanging upon it, there now hangs a weird tulle candy cane that looks more like a giant dead Christmas shrimp.
The shrimp is un-cursed, apparently.  The door has been swinging happily all morning, and is no longer a fire hazard/place for my charred body to lay against...

TRON Original Bike Scene With Daft Punk And Some Editing

This was fun to watch.

The first time I saw the original TRON it was at a friend's house and we had rented the video cassette from a local rental store in a strip mall.  His parents were home and his ancient grandmother was visiting at the time.  So they sat in the living room and watched this for the first time as we did.  I can recall being uncomfortable as there was no way the elders would understand what was about to happen.  As TRON was weird and unusual (and cutting edge for the time).

I can recall their disgust with such an odd film, and the grandmother condescendingly adding "THEY SHOULD PAY YOUUUU TO WATCH THIS FILM!"

They hated it.
