I argue that if all i got when i was a kid was top-of-the-line candy with a ton of king size candy bars, my formative years of Halloween wouldn't have been as exciting.
Variety, as they say, is the spice of life.

The same can be said of cheap candy.
King size bars seem extra amazing surrounded by so-so candy

I must have been the odd one out because I loved getting gum, those orange and black taffy candies and little bags of candy corn. I wasn't too impressed with the candy bars because I got those all the time, all year long. What I was always excited to see was stuff I couldn't pick up in any grocery store all year long. We had a neighbor who used to hand out Japanese candies bought in Japantown in S.F. - loved that. At my house I hand out about 1100 bags of popcorn, 600 long island iced teas and either 500 cupcakes or caramel apples, depending on what we decide to make that year, probably putting me into the "Halloween Freak" category.

The Legend, Rot.

Rot The Legend. No?

This, by the way is brilliant AND hilarious. And accurate. Very very accurate.

haha...nope...not the Legend

Is there a category for spooky erasers and pencil toppers? Cause I'm thinking of throwing some of those in the bowl.

I’m not legend, but definitely a trusty provider. Sometimes I wonder about my neighbors’ offerings though, when kids get excited over mine....

thinking of giving out some old walnuts still in the shell

Good idea, maybe I'll give out boiled peanuts. No bag. Just drop a ladle full in each tot bag.

I am Cheapy McCheapface. Although I buy new candy every year. I give out Smarties because leftovers in our house are used for treating diabetic lows. Plus I spent all my candy money decorating my yard to give you little kids a good show.

Joe has always got those "Fisherman's Friend" cough drops laying around. I wonder how those would get categorized. Would probably cut down on the number of tots next year.

We're in "The Legend" category and one of the reasons we give out full sized bars (with a few bags of fun sized for emergency reserves if we get more trick-or-treaters than previous years) is that when you consider the kind of money we spend on props and jack-o'-lanterns for the yard haunt every year, we'd seriously come across as "Cheapy McCheapfaces" to hand out anything less. Many, many years ago we use to make up treat bags with at least 3 fun sized bars plus other candies, but after evaluating the cost of materials and the time it took to make up 60+ bags, it was easier just to go with full sized bars. Plus, the trick-or-treater reaction to full sized bars has always been extremely positive. It's an instant gratification response. Our entire goal is for kids to enjoy the entire Halloween experience (the spooky yard haunt and the candy) and keep the spirit of Halloween alive and well when they're adults.

Well, unfortunately I don’t classify in any of those. I don’t get any trick or treaters anymore. I still leave the light on just in case, and my decorating is for the neighbors and for the love of Halloween.

Maybe if some fellow Haunters would do a road trip to my haunt I would give out adult treats???

man..bad candy IS the pitts. i always think of those old stale strawberry flavoured hardy candy jobs & the butterscotch ones too!!! brrrrrrrr. SO horrible!!!! i always LOVED receiving the McDonald's Halloween treat coupons/books. always felt so proud & grown to take myself & my mom for some freebies at our McDonald's..<333

we don't really get those little beggars anymore cause there are parties set up for them in Cox Park (gotta say..always a magical night) Plus..the party at the Free Library. But, i have started buying the McDonald's Halloween treat books & the kids really seem to dig em. makes me Happy. brings back memories. Oh & i do notice at the parties, the kids also really like Halloween stickers, beads, pencils & other stuff like that.

I always want to mix a few rocks, actual rocks, in the candy bars I give out. Like one kid gets a KitKat bar the next kid gets a rock.....

(I never do it though....but it's always in the back of my mind. It is called "Trick OR Treat", right???)
