This reminded me of those grade school days in October when the teacher would turn out the lights and play an old scratchy record or read a spooky ghost story to the class.
I wish I had this memory :( another reason I hated catholic school :D
But I did start reading old English ghost stories recently and am committing about six to memory before Halloween...if they still celebrated Halloween at our local school, I would so offer to go in and tell one to the kids. That would be so much fun! :)
Y'know, I think it's a damned shame that kids today don't get this experience! I remember singing Halloween songs and going to Halloween carnivals in elementary school. Nowadays, it's all "Fall Festivals" and "Autumn Carnivals". Sad that my kids don't get to hear ghost stories and listen to creepy records at school.

I still love the ghost story told by John Houseman at the beginning of the movie "The Fog" (the original, not the crappy remake).
