To some, he has eyes that are twice the normal size and a mouth that is three times the normal size with razor sharp teeth, and hides either in your closet or under your bed, waiting for you to turn off the lights. And to others,he is that dark silhouette at the end of a dark ally....
My image of the boogeyman is a mash up of Jack the ripper and the child catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
A short, top hatted, oily haired, pasty faced emaciated troll of a creature wearing a floor length overcoat concealing unspeakable tools of torture.
He likes hiding in the dark corners of his future victim's homes and giggle to himself thinking about what he's going to do to them week's before he strikes.
Jeremy said: As a kid I grew up watching Big Trouble in Little China. The big hairy demon that snatches up Gracie Law twards the end of the film pretty much sums it up for me. That is what I saw hiding behind the bushes ( in my imagination )late at night. Claws, teeth, and snarling. Just waiting to crunch on my bones.
I always considered the Boogieman to be a Gremlin. Sense of humor and fed on fear and chaos. Kinda like the creature from the new Twilight Zone Movie Nightmare at 20000 feet...
I think you already made the Boogyman! My ideal would look exactly like your pond submerged corpse in Creepshow 2010....those pics are just way to realistic!
I believe the boogeyman takes a different form for everyone. He knows what each person is afraid of, so he can change to anything he wants to. Everyone's boogeyman is different. He uses your own fear against you. That is what I believe the boogeyman is. A very old evil.
Very cool to see this on your blog! My theme for the haunt this year is the boogeymen! As to what they will look like, you'll have to find out. You're in for a surprise...
P.S. Rot, tell me you're not making a boogeyman. Not only will it seem like I've copied you, but I will also suffer from trauma and intense non-stop nightmares.
I think it looks like a shadow, a suggestion of a humanoid form, but its very much like a living scribble, the edges always moving. It doesn't move like a human though, it lunges it limbs forward and the rest of it kinda pours after. is limbs are constantly changing, but can form in to what ever it wants. It's dark, colors changing as the scribbles of its edges move, dark blue, black, grey. It lurks under your bed, and in your closet, and claws at you with its long, ever changing, appendages. Note, I'm totally describing something out of one of my nightmares.

he's blue. and moves really fast.
doesn't have a hair on him. and he has little bumps where his hair should be.
I'm picturing him like a suggestion of a man... a blur. White face and hollow eyes...like a mask. Maybe Michael Myers tainted the image for me.
Or like Indrid Cold from The Mothman Prophecies...you can recall seeing him, but can't remember what he looked like.

I see him as a very cartoony monster that lives under your bed... green, real big hands for grabbing small children.
this is an interesting post because, for the most part, when you heard the words "the boogeyman" as a kid, you had nothing to draw on really.

Nah, not making a boogeyman.
Was just wondering about what he looked like.
