Hallowe'en is the second most American holiday, after 4th of July.
Halloween is definitely viewed as a very American holiday here in New Zealand. While I was setting up my display last year someone called out from their car "Looks like bloody America in New Zealand!"
While I understand resistance to highly consumerist American holidays such as Halloween, Easter and even Christmas - I think people often misjudge the U.S.A. based upon these things. We have some awesome American family friends who invite us round for Thanksgiving dinner every year - an All-American, non-consumerist, friendly, family occasion with a whole lot of heart. I'm surprised that Thanksgiving hasn't caught on over here - I think its great!
