And still of a winter's night, they say, when the wind is in the trees,
When the moon is a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
When the road is a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
A highwayman comes riding—
Riding—riding—
A highwayman comes riding, up to the old inn-door.
Alfred Noyes, from The Highwayman

I really love The Highwayman for its spooky imagery and lyrical quality. When I was younger and had no access to a computer, I would run into bits and pieces of it in books. I never figured out what it was, but memorized every verse I found. Much later I came across it when my dad was listening to Loreena McKenitt- and I read the complete poem lyrics in the liner notes!
I fell in love with these lyrics, through Loreena McKennitt's version. Actually reading it here as a poem, I love it even more and now I know it's true origin. :)
