The Curator

After posting the Flame Torches for the Elite blog post, I was going through my blog looking at old entries with the "Torches" label/hashtag.  The below image came up from way back in 2010, from a now-defunct blog called My Brainchild.  An incredible Haunt and photo.  Look at that owl!

It got me thinking as to how many links on this ancient Halloween blog are now nonfunctional and broken.  And it occurred to me that these images might now only exist on this blog, so I'm really hoping the blogger.com platform remains for literally forever.

And I'm going to occasionally post a Blog Label entry, where I'll feature a different Label and encourage folks to click back through time.

I'll start with the below tag for TORCHES.

Click below and scroll through these neat photos.  It was nice to see so many Haunts using real flames:

A nice stroll down memory lane.
I like the idea of having in the background for safety and it frames the yard haunt.

Definitely fun looking back.

And I def love the idea of flames in a Haunt in some fashion... tried it in 2013 but I found myself worrying about it a lot. haha

Mr. Haunted Eve here...
A lot of Halloween blogs and websites from the 2000's, even 2010's, are now defunct. So many different platforms to choose from these days, and the younger generations appear to ignore traditional websites and the use of search engines. If the "algorithm" doesn't dish it out to them on their favorite app, they're never going to bother to go looking for it. We are only updating on Blogger and Flickr these days. We don't have the time to keep up with every new digital trend these days. We no longer have a webhosting account because the lack of traffic couldn't justify the annual hosting costs. We kept our domain name and point it at our Blogger address, that's the best we can do for anyone who is an old diehard fan of our yard haunt work. Hard to believe we started out with a free GeoCities web site in the early 2000's that kept getting shut down because of exceeding the free hourly bandwidth limit and having to get a pro web hosting site, to now barely getting any attention at all the past several years. Luckily we do what we do for Halloween because it's our passion and love. We'll keep our fingers crossed that Flickr and Blogger stick around for at least another decade.

I was one of those people crashing your site! haha

And now with the talk of IG changing to more of a TikTok platform, I'll be curious to see what happens with blogger, as I'm shocked daily that it's still supported.

Hoping too for another ten years!

I remember when you took your hiatus, I was concerned you wouldn't return. I used a website downloader to archive your website in case the domain expired, and then I starting looking in to ways to preserve your blog... But there was just SO MUCH. You've made thousands of posts-worth of wonderful content here... If the blog vanished it would be like the Halloween version of the Library of Alexandria burning!

Also, I tried using the WaybackMachine to view the mybrainchild blog, but her 2009 Halloween photos were not archived unfortunately... That being said, Wendy Leaumont, the original blog owner, is currently posting her work on Instagram as @mybrainchild

Hey, I appreciate that. A lot.
Yeah, the blog is enormous. I will probably stroke out if blogger ever goes way.

To the best of my knowledge and abilities, I will continue to curate this turkey for a long time.
