The October Game

He had never liked October. Ever since he had first lay in the autumn leaves before his grandmother's house many years ago and heard the wind and saw the empty trees. It had made him cry, without a reason. And a little of that sadness returned each year to him. It always went away with spring.

But, it was a little different tonight. There was a feeling of autumn coming to last a million years.

There would be no spring.

One of my favorites, obviously!

Ever read The November Game? It's in another anthology called "Halloween", and I believe in October Dreams II. I appreciate what the author was trying to do, but can't really capture the same dread and horror of the first.

I own October Dreams II, but I refused to read that story as it felt like sacrilege to me at the time (and I realize that sounds silly!). So I'll make a point to read that one. My scathing short story review will follow on the blog. ; )
