As much as I love the access and availability of our instant gratification / streaming service entertainment options (and never mind the GLORIOUS lack of commercials), it does seem like there is something missing without the appointment viewing of Saturday night creature features (and similar).

Was it just the general anticipation? The intoxicating freedom inherent in the Saturday nights of a school age person? Maybe the fact that it was the only time or place to see those movies then? Or, was it the quirky charm of the horror hosts and their cheesy sets? (a mixture of all?)

Literally everything seems like it's objectively better now (an incredible array of options ranging from classic to modern, no ads, no waiting, HD pictures, etc.), but I sure do have fond memories of the various creature feature shows, hosts, and movies…

Wondering the same thing. I ponder if nostalgia is bedfellow to scarcity. Will someone look back fondly on the 2020s and say “I miss that we had hundreds of options of my favorite thing and I could watch it literally whenever I wanted.”

Instant gratification is devastating.

Interesting questions to consider!

For example, as much as I love it, Halloween would be greatly diminished if it was somehow no longer a single-night event (with all of the attendant anticipation, etc.)

On the other hand, if I was suddenly unable to watch / read / listen to whatever I wanted 24 hours a day, I wouldn't view it as a wonderfully nostalgic trip down memory lane. Instead, it would be a quasi-crisis and quite possibly result in a tantrum.

**Side-note: half-an-hour after posting my 'back-in-my-day' old man ramble, I absolutely went upstairs and casually scrolled through several seasons of The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs until I eventually settled on "A Very Joe Bob Xmas: Phantasm" ;)

It is nice to have the endless options that are literally at our finger tips...but these oldies are golden.
