Pay The Ghost

He heard a noise through the downpour, a whisper as if water gently flowing between rocks.  He held his breath and stood very still, glancing over his shoulder at the house as he did so.  Its dark windows looked back.  A hanging gutter gave it an expression of bored irony.  He noticed for the first time that it had only windows, no doors, as if once inside there was no escape.
