I've read the book, but haven't seen the special, either.
It’s okay, I only watched it for the first time last year.

I used to watch with my daughter, who love this film. So I think I love it because she loved it. The animation is ok but it is a great story.
We watch it every year. It's just not Halloween without it.

I think it's quite good. Some great visuals and that old Hanna-Barbera charm. And you've gotta love Leonard Nimoy voicing Moundshroud.
Still prefer the book overall, but it's definitely worth a watch when you're craving somethin wholesome. It'd make a nice palate cleanser after, say, reading a Jack Ketchum novel :)
I bought the DVD years back, I'll have to find it and watch again. But I do love it, the book leaves more to the imagination however...
