Tubular bells IS the defining example here
Hmmm.. Now that I think about it. I guess this article has a point. I will say though, there is a recent one I can think of that I really liked the theme to, which was John Carpenter's The Ward.
omg...i just listened to the theme songs of the "The Exorcist" & "Halloween" side by side .
ummm, there's like Hardly any difference
wow, that's very depressing.
Ohhhh & "Bally High" is the same as "The Bride of Frankenstein"....geezzzz
they're All the same.
Not much meat for an article..picked what, like 5 or 6 of the Best music scores in the last 50 years to use as comparison, is that fair?.. promote that twitter account tho..hahaha.
i will Never understand tweeting.
i did play the theme of "Saw" to some "James Bond" footage, worked for me.
But..more importantly, WHERE can i get one of those cat organ shredders?.
P.S.. music (movie) themes are written with a Particular vibe in mind for each film...Very UNfair then, to say they Don't work with another film.
I thought Douglas Pipe's score for Trick 'r Treat was fantastic. That had a wonderful theme that ran throughout.
Agreed.
I think Hollywood is afraid of taking chances these days, and to me, a recognizable theme is all about taking a chance. Everything has to go through a filter of a ton of Hollywood semi-humans to make it into a movie, and imagine all those uncreative people being presented with a strong theme, or a minimalist score. I blame modern Hollywood for the death of giant themes.
and i agree, girl6.
to judge ANY score outside of the film for which it was written is just dumb.
if i may quote you Rot...
"Everything has to go through a filter of a ton of Hollywood semi-humans to make it into a movie, and imagine all those uncreative people being presented with a strong theme, or a minimalist score"
dude...you summed up the WHOLE world, right there with that quote!
the UNCreative & the Mediocre are incharge of TOO Much..
PISSES ME OFF!!!!..Ughhhhhhhhh
Society LOVES Mediocrity...
(NOT my quote)
Now he's not a horror composer, but Danny Elfman was on the radio this morning. I found it hilarious because all of his scores sound the same. So, I guess there's that? His scores are memorable because they are recognizable? Anyway, the dude sounds cool and all, but I had to laugh. When asked how to compose original scores after doing 80+ movies, he said, if I may paraphrase, that he hadn't listened to any of his scores after they were finished EVER until recently. He said that he was pretty confidant that had he been making scores that really sounded similar, he would have been told at some point, surely. LOL.
I do like the sound of some of his works, but there you go.
Just thought I'd throw that in.
And PS The Exorcist theme will be forever burned into my heart of hearts. Stupid Tubular Bells....
